From what I understand of the “stubborn note” is that it’s a main point in the song because the musician keeps coming back to repeat it over and over again. To me this seems like a really important concept in music. I think that if you were to take this note out of a song, the music would completely change into something that doesn’t resemble the original song. In the chapter Ben Ratliff is trying to prove the importance of the “stubborn note”. In the chapter he says, “The difference between this and true repetition is that repetition puts a spell on you, while the stubborn note takes a spell off of you”. So, yes, I do agree with Ratliff’s argument regarding this musical element.
