         <description><![CDATA[<div>Scientists' theories on how the ocean came about go far back to the beginning of Earth's life. It is believed that the Earth contained no ocean, oxygen, or life for that matter. Instead, the Earth consisted of constant volcanic eruptions and a molten earth. Eventually, the eruptions emitted water vapor that continued to outpour for millions or even billions of years. The vapor came from the earth's crust and as more water came onto the earth's surface, it cooled our temperatures. The Earth is now habitable, and it largely has to do with our oceans. It is important to know this so you can have a better appreciation of water. It allows us to live, it generates some of our oxygen and it's a good food source.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Jellyfish can be bioluminescent and are known as one of the only oceanic species that can survive in various depths and pressures of the ocean. This means they are able to survive in sunlit and non-sunlit depths of the ocean. They spend all their life searching for food and mates. They eat fish larvae, plankton, and fish eggs. Some species even survive off of algae. It is important to know that you should stay away from most species of jellyfish. Their tentacles can produce large amounts of venom and there have been instances where jellyfish are dangerous to humans.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun. Tides cause daily changes of the ocean sea level everywhere in the world. High tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon. High tides happen in two locations, one being where the moon is closest to the earth and on the side that's furthest from the moon. In between those tides are where you can find the low tides, since water is being pulled higher at the high tides. It is important to know when your area will experience high tides so you can prepare to move any boats or shelter that may be affected. This may not happen often because of certain guidelines, but when visiting a foreign area, you should keep this information at the back of your mind.  -Skyla Miller</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>As opposed to wind driven currants and tides, which are due to the gravity of the moon and sun, thermohaline is driven by the density differences.&nbsp; Thermo (temperature) and Haline (salinity) is just a fancy way of saying that this area of the ocean gets its circulation from the varying temperature's and saltiness of the water.<br>Thermocline is an oceanic layer that's temperature decreases rapidly with depth.  This can be water that icebergs float in, as it's found often in those same areas.  In order to remember the difference of these two terms, I am thinking of the Cline as "Celine Dion" and her songs from Titanic and the iceberg.</div>]]></description>

These tides when the moon is furthest from the equator.&nbsp;<br>A half-diurnal high tide has two equal high tides and two equal low tides every day. The second tide rises to the same level as the first tide, and the second ebb tide falls to the same level as the first tide. Currents on the other hand are affected by the tides, weather such as wind, and even the temperature of the water. Learning about the tides and currents is important to help keep us safe. Safe from rising water during flooding or safe from being swept away by a strong current. Thermocline circulation is basically the temperature of the ocean. The deeper the ocean goes the colder it gets.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Tides are changes in the level in the ocean that occur daily. The two main causes of tides are gravitational pull from the sun and the moon. High tide is created by the moon thus the water pull toward the moon. Water on the opposite side of the earth is creates a bulge as it not being pulled by the moon. Low tide occurs when there is no gravitational pull the moon. Ocean water has different currents that are predictable. Surface currents flow for thousands of miles. Currents are not affected by large storms as they have factors that do not have change.
