Discovery of Puerto Rico

*November 19 is celebrated in Puerto Rico a party of extraordinary historical significance: the discovery of the island, to conduct in 1493 the Great Admiral Christopher Columbus.

*Columbus discovered the island of Puerto Rico on his second voyage, he made a fleet of 17 ships and 1,500 men under his command.

       Meet Puerto Rico 
* Throughout the year along the Paseo de Ia Princesa, visitors can shop for traditional crafts and chat with local artisans, Built in 1540 and later converted into the Governor's residence, La Fortaleza has been designated a World Heritage Site by the United Nations. 
*Built for Ponce de Leon, the first governor of Puerto Rico , this beautiful white house has been transformed into a museum of 16th and 17th century family life, including a miniature re-creation of a Taino Indian Village.


         Puerto Rico
*El Yunque National Forest is home to fern trees and about 50 species of orchids, some of the few plant species left that are native to Puerto Rico.

*Puerto Rico is a good place to watch tropical birds. The island is home to more than 200 bird species, from the rare Puerto Rican parrot to the tiny but colorful tody.
