What is it?

Virtual reality is the term used to describe a 3D computer generated environment which can be explored and interacted with by a person. That person becomes part of this virtual world or is immersed within this environment and whilst there, is able to manipulate objects or perform a series of actions.

How can it be useful in marketing?

Virtual reality allows the consumer to experience the product/service without being physically close to it. It can be used for several purposes for example:
* To show consumers a product and allow them to test it
* To inform the consumer about anything they think is useful, for example the production process
* To find out what consumers think for market research purposes

Real life business examples:

* Marriott Hotels - Tho hotel chain has been offering newly married couples to experience their honeymoon experiences through Virtual reality.

What is it?
A website and application that enables users to create and share content or to participate in social networking

How it can be useful in marketing?
It is a great space to keep customers informed, develop brand identity, and broaden consumer reach.

Business examples:
Oreo continues to dominate Facebook with their delicious cookie by use of beautiful images combined with recipes and a creative use of hashtags also help- to get people talking.
Dove release a video which got close to half a million views and thousands of likes, comments and shares. In the video they hardly mention the brand. This isn’t a commercial—they’re telling a story targeting peoples emotional side.
Dove also encourages tagging by asking their fans to tell a story about someone who means something to them.

Advantages:
- Facebook has a lot of users and therefore potential customers.
-According to digital marketers Facebook is a lot cheaper than other advertisements- and last longer
-Ads can be transferred by friends through the 'clicking' of certain videos, posts etc and therefore reach double the amount of people.
Limitations:
-Information can be ignored due to too much noise (too many people use Facebook as a marketing tool)
-Competition is tight- You have to make yourself stand out.
-Maintaining Facebook marketing requires a lot of time and resources to be fully successful.
