What I like about Saurabh

We met as Graduate Trainee Engineers at Telco ( Tata Motors). We shared the apartment accomodation that was provided by Telco.

So we grew to be good friends.

The thing I liked about him most was his simplicity and commitment. He was very down to earth person which I think, he stays till date.

Even in those days when most of us were 'not so serious' about work....just coming out of college, he was heavily committed towards work. He completed( designed / drafted ) a new collapsible steering column in a matter of 6 months !

I have spent my full time in automotive now. Imagine a new GTE joining from college with minimal computer background, learning CAD creation and drafting, from start and using it for creation of a test worthy collapsible steering column design. With all the people I have met till date in my career I have never met a person more self driven ... It was a pleasure.

Saurabh and I met first in 2008 at Cognizant. He was soon to be become my boss for a new account and we had to pursue the sales together. I was thrown into the fire with no experience of doing it. We were in the grind together for the next good 6-8 months and I would have let him down or disappointed him many a time but he would let any of that get come in the way of helping me learn and get my confidence along the way. He also had my back throughout, held my hand when he needed to but let me loose and face the challenges myself when I was ready. Fast forward almost 15+ years later, Saurabh is my brother from another mother. His influence plus his family's influence on me and now our family will be everlasting.

They don't make too many like Saurabh Mehta and I am deeply privileged to know the man. He has a heart of gold, always looking at the positive, always willing to help someone.

Dear Saurabh,

Wishing you the best of everything that life has to offer. 50 is just another number for you - you still look the same like 2008 when I met you. Wishing you continue to inspire so many more people, have fun with everything you do and be in great health and wonderful spirits wherever you are.

I met Saurabh in Telco. Being the friendly person he is, we could make a connect very fast. His sense of humour brought such a cheer to our group. His interesting perspectives and comments used to make our discussions very funny. He was a friend I could always trust. He ( and also Da) was very supportive especially at my marriage time. I can never forget that. Those were very fun days.

Growing up you were the elder brother I looked up to and was always fascinated. I remember standing at the top of the staircase at Anoop Nagar and screaming Sonu Bhaiyaaaa, terrace sleepovers, or Diwali at Sanganer right before your wedding, fighting for Chiggum . I am not sure how much of this would you remember, but we did have a fun childhood. And it’s equally fun being with you now. The only relationship I have with you is through your children but that speaks volumes about you.

I am privileged and blessed to call you a brother in the body of Christ. I know of few who sacrifice of themselves as much as you have for your family.

I hope you see it as a compliment when I say your children aren’t very Asian - we humans love to have children resemble us, who follow our traditions and are raised as we were raised. It was a rainy day in Indore. I was in a comfy place with my mom when I met him for the first time. When People first introduced me to him, I did not realize who I was meeting, but the past 48 years of my life have taught me how lucky I am to have met him. He is not only the best brother I could have asked for but also a terrific guide, mentor, friend, teacher, and buddy. He has taught me things ranging from school-level Maths to life lessons. I still look towards him to get me out of situations that are not so comfortable. He was always there as someone whom I could go to for anything. I am happy that he is my elder brother.

Worked in Cognizant for 11 years. For the first 9 years - I would come to GAPS every single time and look at the GAP stage award with awe.

In my 10th year, changed my role and tried my hand at Sales. Was a rookie sales guy and guess who gave me that opportunity ? Mr.Mehta

Fast forward 12 months, we closed 14 new logos together and I landed on that stage for a CeO award!! That was the longest hug I had given anyone !! Wouldn’t have been possible without Saurabh.
