Flappers were young women in the 1920s who wore short dresses, cut their hair, danced, and partied. The term came from slang and was linked to rebellious girls. After World War I and the Spanish flu, many young people wanted to enjoy life.

Women gained rights like voting and jobs, making them more independent. Flappers drank during Prohibition, smoked, and acted free, which upset older people. Movies and jazz music helped spread flapper culture.

They were seen as wild and were judged by society, but not all women were flappers. The lifestyle ended after the 1929 stock market crash, but they remain a symbol of the 1920s.

During WWI, airplanes became important for spying and later for fighting in the air. A key invention called the interrupter gear allowed machine guns to shoot through propellers, leading to real air battles. Famous pilots like the Red Baron became war heroes. Planes didn’t win the war, but they helped ground troops a lot. Even though bombing civilians didn’t work well, people still believed it could end wars faster, an idea used again in WWII.

Chemical Weapons In WW1

The first use of chemical weapons happened during the Second Battle of Ypres in 1915, when the German army released chlorine gas.The gas showed a greenish yellow cloud that went into Allied trenches which caused panic, choking, and death.

Different types of gas were used including Chlorine which causes asphyxiation. Phosgene which is more deadly than chlorine. Mustard Gas, which caused chemical burns and blindness.

Soldiers used urine soaked cloth over their faces to help with chlorine gas.

This led to the development of more effective gas masks.

Chemical warfare caused psychological trauma. The fear of a gas attack kept soldiers with anxiety, even if no gas was used.

Chemical weapons killed around 90,000 people in WWI and injured over a million. The effects led to the Geneva Protocol of 1925, which made the gases not for use by the later years.
