         <description><![CDATA[<div>When providing services we must: <br>- "Gain awareness of your own biases and assumptions about the role of group- and societal-level influences on work and career.  to ensure you do not impose your own assumptions and biases on others.<br><br></div><div>-       Understand that clients will differ in their awareness of various contextual influences on their decisions; respect their level of awareness and ability to articulate those influences.<br><br></div><div>-       Examine work and career options that go beyond traditional gender roles.<br><br></div><div>-       Help clients counter restrictive occupational stereotypes.<br><br></div><div>-       Help identify barriers so as to develop appropriate interventions.<br><br></div><div>-       Help clients identify family expectations and cultural assumptions that influence career choices.<br><br></div><div>-       When clients want to go against family or cultural expectations, help them discuss potential cultural consequences of countering those expectations. How will their families react? Help clients identify ways to address resistance.<br><br></div><div>-       Help clients identify the strongest influences on their decisions. What role did gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation play in those decisions? Were some choices foreclosed due to group or societal level variables?<br><br></div><div>-       Examine differences between aspirations (career dreams), expectations and goals. Help clients reconcile those differences, particularly if options were prematurely foreclosed.<br><br></div><div>-       Help clients understand how racism may have influenced their perceptions of opportunities, and how cultural values may influence career aspirations.<br><br></div><div>-       Encourage as much math coursework as possible, given its role as a critical filter in entry to many career fields. Explore clients’ levels of confidence for math and possible ways to counter low math self-efficacy.<br><br></div><div>-       Stress decisions that keep as many options open as possible.<br><br></div><div>-       Help clients identify supportive others, including family members." <br>                    (Found and Swanson, 2015)</div>]]></description>
