Luckily Art lends itself very nicely to so many fun things that can maintain student attention before a break. I definitely like the "Genius Hour" that gives students some choice in their study- but I don't think this idea needs to be isolated to holiday breaks. This is a neat idea for the whole year. I also like the idea of a blog/multimedia project. Students could easily select an artist or movement to research and work in groups (or independently) to create blogs, vlogs or documentaries about those artists/movements. Sharing the videos in class would also feel like a "movie day" for the kids without actually being a wasted "movie day!"

A "Wonder Day" sounds cool - especially for reading, but I think a lot of kids would just choose to "wonder" about the things they are already interested in (just like they often choose to read books they've heard of or already read). I think maybe I would tweak by finding 15 interesting articles and letting them choose. That way, I could ensure they pick something that is actually on grade level and somewhat eye-opening for them.

Luckily in Health when we do projects the students are very creative and this last project I had the students read articles and give the 5 MVP's about that article, in their own words. I have done discussion boards, but would like to do a blog with them one day, i know they can be creative with that.To me students learn better at times when they can be creative in their own lessons.
