“Validation” connection

Today we watched a short film called “Validation”. After watching it, the film reminded me of a few things. One thing this reminded me of was the song “All of you”. This is because like the film, the artist is trying to remind his wife of how much he loves her, giving her plenty of reasons. For example, he says “even when you’re crying you’re beautiful too”. Another connection I have is my girlfriend. For instance, if I feel down or not feeling like me lately, she just listens to me & always compliments me to make me feel valid about myself & my feelings.

Hey followers! Today I went to this fun museum and saw a ton of cool pieces. My favorite would have to be “Vancouver riot kissing couple” by Richard Lam. Here’s a picture of it! This photograph shows a couple, not caring about where they are, just wanting to love each other, in case it’s the last time they can. It really stood out to me because it’s just showing me that nothing should get in the way of your true love. I also like that this photographer blurred out the background and focused in on the couple. Overall, I really liked all the pieces. I’m so glad mr Knute and Ms. Miller set this up for me!

Identity Crisis Blog

Hey blog fans, I am reading The Girls, By Emma Cline. Overall, the book falls in the novel, or historical fiction genre and I really enjoy the style. I have finished about 1/4 of my book and I am discovering a great deal about my character’s conflict. If you recall, my character Evie, got kicked out of her house by her mom, and now she is living with a group of dangerous cult girls. This conflict can be seen as an identity crisis because this causes her to once again lie about her age to fit in, and also her getting close with bad people, not knowing their intentions. For the rest of this blog, I would like to share a pivotal moment in the book that demonstrates this identity crisis.

The moment that mostly defines my character is when she gets kicked out. This ultimately leads up to her saying she is older so that the girls will accept her, ends up with her doing bad stuff she will come to regret. The author dramatized this scene by making you feel the slap yourself as the reader. On page 91, it reads "She reached forward and slapped me, hard enough so there was an audible sound. "Get out" Her neck was mottled with hives, wrists thin." One of the biggest quotes proving she is joining in on bad things at just 14 years old was on page 126. The author wrote, "When I saw a guy, tapping a pack of cigarettes, I stopped without hesitation, "Can I have one?"" This is showing me that the people you surround yourself with, will reflect off onto you.

I can relate to my character, Evie, because when you're young, all you want to do is grow up, but when you're grown, you wish time wouldn't have flown by. There was a time I also had an identity crisis in my life. There was an incident I had once in my old neighborhood in West Allis, which resulted in a man chasing down, and punching my female neighbor repeatedly right in front of my house. This connect to the book for me because it brought a lot of drama to our block. This also connects because I just wanted to be older, like Evie, so I could put on mass and protect my neighbor.
