For each of my senior classes, I've set up a weekly ZOOM meeting so we can discuss key ideas, concepts and content. ZOOM has a function where you can allocate participants into discussion rooms, then individuals can report back on their group's ideas.

The only thing I can do at the moment with my Seniors is answer questions, which I have set up a tab in their one note, and also make videos of making meals at home that demonstrate the skills they have been learning. That they can practice at home. Where they too can post/ upload a video or picture of themselves doing the skill or cooking method.

I'm going to trial screencasting worked examples and visual demonstrations and sending these to students on Onenote. The visual demonstrations might not work for all subjects, but is useful in chemistry where students are going to need to learn about shapes of chemicals. I brought home a set of chemical building blocks to use for this.

I am thinking about how best to deliver our content through Onenote. Currently, I am using powerpoint to make a whole lesson and embedding whatever resources i need in this so students just need to work through the powerpoint without having to navigate lots of different resources. Also, trying to make the lessons engaging by giving students the opportunity to be creative and show their learning using media of their choice.

Students send me work via email weekly so that I can make sure they are on track. The work does not have to be finished, and the students know this so that they do not feel anxiety or the obligation to finish every week. Every week I will present new goals so that they have a sense of direction. There is however a clear due date at the end of the term.

I am extremely fortunate that my department is very collaborative in this unprecedented time of remote teaching. Being early on in my career, this help is more valuable than I can put into words. I have also been adding audio into my lesson power points, as I hope that this will help to clarify any existing points of confusion.

To be honest, I have really lowered my expectations of what I want from my students over the next few weeks. I pushed all my classes really hard during term 1 and they deserved a break, unfortunately I don't believe they are getting one. I have done what is required of me for my department and left my email for their communication. However, I know how hard it is for me to concentrate at the moment with all the uncertainty and I am a grown adult. I am also aware that a lot of my students are essential workers and care for large families who will have to babysit and be present for their family time. I have 2-3 tasks a week for them and if they want to do more then I will facilitate that but as SLT keep saying, less is more :)
