I'm Amy Varchmin, Instructional Math Coach. This is my eighth year as a coach, but my first time leading an online course for the Department of Teaching and Learning. Numeracy development time is my favorite part of the Balanced Framework because of the opportunities students have to talk about math, make sense of numbers, and see math in the everyday world. I have been amazed by students at all grade levels as they share strategies and how they progress in skills throughout grade levels.

From this class, I hope to connect with teachers who want to see the same in their students. I aim to provide resources, coaching, feedback, and collaboration with other teachers in this group.

My name is Christina Hibbitts and I am a self-contained ASD teacher at Keller. This is my 10th year teaching ASD. We tried to aim for a more "junior high" experience for our students so this year I am teaching math to most of the students in our program. I have a wide variety of students that I work with ranging from students who are just beginning their numeracy development to students who are learning 7th grade material.

From this class, I really hope to take away a strong structural system that I can have in place in all of my math sections in order to incorporate numeracy. I also hope to have a general understanding of the scope and sequence of numeracy development so I can help all my students of varying levels.

This is my 13th year at Frost and I teach both 710 and 810 math acceleration. I spend a lot of time planning with the 710 and 810 teams as well as our acceleration teams, so my goal for this class is to bring the ideas that we learn back to the teams during planning. Since a lot of my PLC members are taking this course, I look forward to collaborating with them in regards to what we learn from everyone else!

In 810, our PLC often gives Google Forms at the beginning of class to start the students off. While this was great for the teachers, we noticed a drop in engagement and overall math discussion in the class. The participation was originally there when students were excited about using the Chromebooks but now I am looking to find new, creative, innovative ways to give numeracy.
