His first job was working as an assistant book keeper at age 16. Rockefeller incorporated the Standard Oil Company in 1870. Standard Oil became America's first true monopoly, which was combated by Anti-trust acts. The Company had to be dissolved multiple times, but they still were centrally controlled. Rockefeller retired at age 56, and he kept himself busy with charitable works.
