Xi said Beijing will "significantly lower" tariffs on auto imports this year and ease restrictions on foreign ownership in the auto industry as soon as possible.

China charges total duties of 25 percent on most imported cars -- a 10 percent customs tariff plus a 15 percent auto tax. Since December 2016, Beijing also has charged an additional 10 percent on "super-luxury" vehicles priced above $200,000.

The U.S. bought more than $500 billion in goods from China last year and now is planning or considering penalties on some $150 billion of those imports.-(/DJ

One would have already expected it to be more competitive than usual given Republicans' poor performance on the generic ballot and in special elections throughout the year. And with Ryan's exit, Republicans are losing a high-profile incumbent who has won re-elections rather easily in Wisconsin's first congressional district. 

When you take into the partisan lean of the district, the national environment and the potential quality of the candidates, it's pretty clear that this is going to be a race that both sides fight for. 

Based upon the last two presidential elections and how Wisconsin 1 has voted versus the nation, the partisan baseline of Ryan's district is +11 Republican.

The U.S. is the top supplier of animal hides and skins to China's $220 billion leather industry. China exported 680 million pairs of leather shoes last year, according to the Chinese Leather Industry Association.
