Personally, I have never had to make a major health-related decision but many people in my family have. For example, My sister Olivia who is 18 years old had a bad rash all over her body and wan not sure if it was just an allergic reaction to something or if it was something worth getting looked at by a doctor. After about a week of having this rash, it was not getting any better, it was actually getting much worse. Olivia decided that it would be best for her to go and get it checked out. Once she got to the doctor, they immediately knew exactly what it was and gave her two different creams to apply and said that id she would have not gone and got it looked at, it would have just continued to get worse over time. This decision began as an individual decision but later on became collaborative between her and my mom.

Making individual decisions can be a lot easier than making collaborative decisions for many reasons. "Individual decision making saves time and energy as individuals make prompt and logical decisions generally (Making Healthy Choices 5-6). Making individual decisions is what most people do more often than not because of the fact that it can be much quicker.

Collaborative decisions is often the better choice, when making a collaborative decision you get to hear others opinions on the topic allowing many different options and more information. "Collaborative decision making involves many members, many views and many approaches and hence better decision making" (Making Healthy Choices 6).
