The Effects of Facebook on the Academic Performance of Grade 12 Student of Richwell College Incorporated. 

INTRODUCTION 

Facebook is an website for social networking that allows registered users to create profiles, upload photos and video, send messages and keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues. The site, which is available in 37 different languages, includes public features. (https://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/Facebook). 

 

In today's life, many students use different types of social media accounts, a websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking , such as twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and of course, the most number of people using Facebook . Almost all people around the world are active on Facebook, More than 100 million people using other social media every month. Facebook announces new data center in Altoona, Iowa. More than 100 million people use Facebook for Every gadget each month. Here in the Philippines almost 36.2 million people use Facebook to communicate, this shows that the Facebook is the most popular social network in the world. Social media also has a plenty of opportunities of learning and interactivity that helps many of students in their studies. 

Facebook have been published in public on  February 4, 2004 by  Mark Zuckerberg, along with fellow Harvard College students and roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook). They Said that the purpose of using Facebook is to make the world more open and connected, also Facebook's latest mission statement is that people can use Facebook to stay connected with friends and family, discover what's going on in the world and share their feelings it also can help a lot people to show their talent. But there are advantages and disadvantages in using Facebook. 

 

A lot of people are using Facebook in communication, social media, and etc. because it’s easy to find some friend and share our timeline to know what is happening in your life. It also their guide to show relationship with other. In our research 94% of teenager is using Facebook, and According to the report, 95 percent of teens under in age of (12 – 17) use the internet, and 81 percent of them use social media sites. Facebook is by far the most trending social site, with 94 % of social media teens reporting they have a profile there. Twitter and Instagram are far behind Facebook, but both have made impressive gains. Other application like twitter was used by only 12% of teens in 2011 but it increased to 26% in 2012. Instagram doesn’t appear to have been measured in 2011, so surveyed growth can’t be determined.  Also according to Ismael Esquivel Gámez of Conference: Conference: 9th International Technology, Education and Development Conference, At Madrid, España. Using a Facebook for study help student to improve their sense of community and promoting collaboration, enhancing communication between there instructors. 

But the disadvantages of using Facebook are consuming too much time that you’ve became stubborn and lazy, also caused an addiction that you can’t even let go of your phone and can cause an illness called seizure because of too much use of phone that it affected your brain.
