1) What did you learn from this Belonging Workshop 3?
-Based on the most recent workshop, this was beneficial to the interpretation of belonging, which makes this more engaging. Making thought bubbles to display our cultures is very inspirational. It is so interesting to know that based on the things that I have interacted with over the years would shape me into the person that I would like to be.

2) What inspired you the most?
-Having the opportunity to create a culture map for the workshop was so inspirational It refreshes the idea of the sense of belonging in all of us. It also gives me hope that I am going to be a great person in the future.

3) How can you connect this workshop 3 content to what we have been learning through this art education methods course?
-Based on the previous workshops that we have participated in, this would be the most beneficial because the ideas and activities that were within the workshop helped clarify the sense of belonging for each and every person. At the very beginning of the workshop sessions, the idea was very unclear. Since this was the last one, I understand the entire concept based on the activities and backstories.

4) How did this workshop 3 help you better understand the meanings of “Belonging, Culture, and Identity”?
-Participating in this workshop allowed me to think freely about what my culture was based on the culture map I have created. This would benefit the idea of my sense of well-being, belonging, and identity. I am very glad that I am able to participate in that activity as well. I was clueless on this concept until I enrolled in this course.

5) Explain if any part of your culture map is related to the image of place you chose.
-The image of the Atlanta, GA highway is something that involves my culture and interests of my car. It allows me to explore, travel to work, and also to have a sense of power when it comes to transportation. It may be difficult for people to travel by car, but I see it as a challenge because it also allows my brain to think critically when I have to travel somewhere safely. That’s why I believe this is a cultural belonging characteristic.

6) Explain if any part of your culture map is related to the artworks you created for the “Art in the Elementary School” course.
-I would believe that the paper weaving project is something that is related to my family. Like the process of weaving the paper strips between each other, family is something that is very bonded together, and it is hard to separate once they’re together. This shows a sense of belonging and understanding that family is everything and should last forever as long as communications and forgiveness are present.

1. I learned from this belonging that finding a belonging and identity is an issue in both social and artistic expressions. Implications of this for a classroom is knowing what to do, when to do it and how to do it regarding helping students both express themselves and grow in a safe environment.

2. I was most inspired by Borim Song’s works of art, particularly the evolution of her feet series over time. The progression and detail that evolved with each revision and change of materials was cool. I think It was awesome to be able to come back to one’s roots in art and make it again, this time with the experience learned.

3. This workshop went over belonging and finding an identity through the expression of art. Art can be an outlet or even a network chock full of other people who have things in common. People can find their identity with peers who share the same interest or even the same art class in school. The environment should be safe, and the students assured that they can freely express themselves.

4. This workshop helped me better understand that this topic is not so black and white. It can be artistic expressions and identity regarding the creation of art and what type it may be. Culture, Identity, and Belonging can be based around things other than race, ethnicity, nationality, and be things like art, hobbies, or friends.

5. Culture Map (See separate post. It won't let me attach multiple photos.)

6. My culture map is related to the place I chose. Hatteras Island is filled with many fauna, especially seabirds. I love nature and animals. Naturally I took up photography to capture them. Something about the difficulty of capturing a perfect frame from an animal that won’t stay still is what keeps me coming back. If you are interested in the birds; they are the dark morph Parasitic Jaeger and the Wilson’s Storm Petrel feeding off a fish oil trail. These seafaring birds rarely come on land and spend almost their entire lives miles and miles from land. (Hatteras Island, 20 miles off the coast in the gulf stream.)

7. I love animals and nature. So far most of my artwork created in this course gravitates towards fauna and flora. The uglies submission is based on a raccoon and the Sgraffito are just flowers I doodled before covering them in black crayon to complete the assignment.

1) What did you learn from this Belonging Workshop 3?
- I learned the history of others, what they go through, what they experience. I learned what they strive for with their art and I learned how their past experiences shaped and molded them into the persons that they are now.

2) What inspired you the most?
-Certainly the mediums used, I liked the self portraits as well as the use of ones own hair and incorporating poses. It's more than what they do, but the stories and messages they wish to share with their mediums.

3) How can you connect this workshop 3 content to what we have been learning through this art education methods course?
-It has just been one in the many workshops and examples of the theme of Art Education, teaching inclusion, being the ones to promote creativity and expression, and pushing others to draw inspiration from their past.

4) How did this workshop 3 help you better understand the meanings of “Belonging, Culture, and Identity”?
-Belonging is what you make it, Culture and Identity is both conscious and unconscious. These three facets of people not only can be used as an inspiration for art, but they can also be used to push other people respecting and supporting others.

5) Make your own culture map. That is the view I have seen for the past 11 years since we moved to our house in 2011. I remember sitting at my desk, the desks changing over the years, and looking at the tall oak that used to be there, working on schoolwork, making my art. This view is what I look onto in hope.

7) Explain if any part of your culture map is related to the artworks you created for the “Art in the Elementary School” course.
- When I make my art, when I am given a prompt, I still try to give it my own personal touch. For the emotional piece, I chose the concept of hope because for the past few years... I've only known despair and I've decided to take hope for myself. The Mask's design was designed after Igbo masks, my father is full blooded African. The art collage represents my stages of life
