I find it shocking that teachers have decided that we now have to have a cell phone “hotel” in our classrooms. What will it be next, a gum hotel because chewing is distracting! Let us make our choices. 

Teachers say phones are too distracting and students might not be able to stay focussed and concentrate on their work. My phone helps me stay focussed which is a challenge for me to do every day. Lots of students say their phone keeps them on task. 

I would hope that by Grade 12 I should be able to manage my school work and if I don’t, I will fail. I will suffer the consequences. Maybe tell students that if you chose to waste your time on your phone, you will deal with the consequences. Treat us like adults and if we fail, that’s our choice. A lot of teachers will agree with cell phones being distracting. For me, whether or not I have my phone the work I get done is limited and this has been an ongoing problem for years.

So, I think this should be a student's choice especially as a grade 12 student. We should be able to manage the ourselves and deal with the consequences. I can manage my cell phone!
