The land of Peru was conquered by Francisco Pizarro in 1533, him and his army fought to gain control of the land for two years before they actually did take control over what would later become Peru

On July 28, 1821 Peru declared its independence from Spain.  It took them three years to officially separate from Spain as they did not want to lose this land.

Later in the century, the Peruvians started to fight in many wars, such as a second war with Spain from 1864-1866 and a war they lost in which they fought Chile in 1879-1883

A terrorist group called shining path started a horrific campaign to overthrow the Peruvian government in 1980

About 69,000 people were killed from 1980-2000
Terrorist groups were responsible for 54%  of these deaths
The government was responsible for 30%
