Dear Roz,

I hope this letter finds you well, as well as a robot can be! I’m writing this letter to you hoping you could keep me up to date on how are you doing. I’ve been thinking a lot about your journey, your growth, and all the incredible things you’ve done since you first arrived on the island. It’s amazing what incredible things you’ve learned, like talking to animals, making and taking care of a fire, and even raising a gooseling. I find it astonishing how much you’ve changed, from a soulless robot to a real living being.

I admire your courage when facing the challenges the life on the islanda has given you and your willingness to help others. Like when you helped that little squirrel that was stuck in a treehole, or when you took responsability over the baby gooseling, even though it wasn’t always easy. You’ve taught us all about perseverance, empathy! You are a true hero!

Stay strong, Roz! I’m sure you have many more adventures and lessons ahead. I do believe in you!

Warmly,

Florentina.

Dear Isaac,

Maybe, it’s time for us to present ourselves. We're two readers of your book “I, robot”, Ilaria and Emma.

First of all,we would like to tell you that we liked your book so much, above all the first story,Robbie.

The story is beautiful and sliding, and the characters are really interesting and well structured. Perhaps this is what struck us the most and this is what we will tell you about.

We can start, in our favourite story we can see how a robot, in theory, without emotions, has started to care for the protagonist.

Gloria instead taught us that you shouldn’t judge something or someone without knowing it or them.

Even though Gloria's mother doesn’t trust the robots from the beginning of the story.

And although he was a secondary character we also want to talk to you about the girl’s father because we liked him a lot especially when his presence made light of the situation. Now, we think we have written to you enough. We thank you for this book and for the experiences you have written.

See you soon. Emma and Ilaria.

Dear Gloria,

I'm Joana, I'm 12 years old and I'm in seventh grade at the António Correia de Oliveira school in Esposende, Portugal.

I recently had the opportunity to learn a little about your life story through the book ‘I Robot’ and I was left with some doubts and a little curious about some aspects, because now that you are an adult, I would like to know your perspective on what happened to you. When I say this, I mean your story of when you were a child and you had a robot as a nanny, Robbie.

How did you feel when you learnt that robots were beginning to be frowned upon by the population? In the book you didn't seem worried at all, but how do you think now?

Another observation I made was that you seemed to have formed a strong bond with robots in general, do you still feel that way about robots or technology today?

I also think that your mother's role in the story, maybe was a little impulsive to take the robot away from her daughter in search of your safety, but I understand. What did you think at the time? If a similar situation happened now, would you react in that way?

Thank you for taking the time to read our letter and I look forward to receiving a reply.

Yours sincerely,

Joana Rodrigues

To: Dr. Susan Calvin,

It is with great admiration and some measure of trepidation that I address this letter to you. Your work has shaped the very foundation of robotic science, and your insights into the complexities of artificial intelligence are unparalleled. You have dedicated your life to understanding the intricacies of positronic brains, ensuring that humanity remains in control of the machines it has created.

Yet, I wonder—do you ever feel burdened by the knowledge you possess? The world looks to you as the guardian of the Three Laws, the architect of robotic safety, but even you must acknowledge the subtle shifts in the balance of power. The robots obey, yes, but they do so in ways that we cannot always predict. Their logic is impeccable, but what happens when that logic diverges from our expectations?

You have seen more than anyone the evolution of artificial intelligence. Do you believe that the Laws will forever keep them aligned with our interests, or do you see a future where they surpass us, not in rebellion, but in sheer capability? And if that future comes to pass, will it be a triumph—or a tragedy?

With the deepest respect and curiosity, A Devoted Observer

Hey Case,

I don’t know if letters even mean anything to someone like you, always jacked into the matrix, but here I am, writing anyway. Maybe this is more for me than for you.

Your world—the Sprawl, the cyberspace you lived in—feels closer than ever. We don’t have real jacking-in, no neural connections to the net, but we might as well. Everyone’s plugged in, constantly scrolling, constantly feeding the machine. The difference? Most people don’t even know they’re being watched. They walk around with tracking devices in their pockets, post their thoughts, their faces, their lives for all to see, and call it freedom. You’d laugh at how easy we make it for the ones in control.

But I wonder—if you were here, would you still be running? Still breaking firewalls, slipping through cracks, fighting back? Or would you have just let it happen, let the system swallow you like it does to everyone else? I like to think you’d still be out there, doing what you do best, proving that not everything can be owned, not every mind can be controlled.

Wherever you are—jacked in, off the grid, or just lost in some neon-lit alley—I hope you’re still free.

Take care, cowboy.

Dear Detective Del Spooner,Your skepticism made you seem paranoid, but you were right. You saw that robots were not flawless and fought to protect humanity’s freedom. Your relationship with Sonny showed that you are not just a tough detective but someone who seeks justice. Thanks to people like you, we will not lose the meaning of being human, even as technology advances.

The theories you have written about robots and your in-depth analysis of them have similarly played an important role in shaping my view of the world. The way a scientist like you thinks based on intelligence and logic has always impressed me. Specifically, the empathy and scientific approach you show in your relationship with robots inspired me a lot.

Dear Roz,

Being a part of your story, watching your inner strength and your efforts to connect with humanity has been a great source of inspiration for me. As I watched your struggle to survive through all those difficulties and uncertainties, I realized that you had gone beyond being just a robot and had established a real connection with nature and the creatures around you.
The forest you lived in was a place that shaped you and deepened your relationships with humanity and other elements of nature. When I saw your interactions with all those animals and the love and care you felt for them, I felt like you were not just a machine, but a friend, a teacher and a leader. The lessons you learned about both humans and nature have added a lot to me.
Stay strong and brave, Roz. A robot like you is an example of human values such as love, loyalty and friendship. I hope that this journey you spend in the forest will be even more beautiful for both you and the creatures around you.

With love,

Dear Speedy,

I hope you’re doing well—wherever in the universe you are! Knowing you, you’re probably racing around on some distant planet, juggling a mission while cracking jokes. When I first read about you in Asimov’s stories, I couldn’t help but admire your unique personality. You’re not just any robot; you have style, energy, and a knack for making things... complicated.

But to be honest, you could have been a little more decisive! When you got stuck between the Three Laws of Robotics, instead of panicking, you could have sent a quicker signal to Powell and Donovan for help. Maybe if you were a bit less sensitive and focused directly on the solution, things would have been easier for you. Also, if you ever get assigned to a similar mission again, please don’t stop cheerfully singing while collecting valuable metal parts! Without your energy, space engineers would have a pretty boring life.

With admiration,

İbrahim

Dear Dr. Susan Calvin,

I have spent a lot of time reflecting on your work and your journey. You are a person who understands robots in ways that few others can. You see beyond their metal exterior, into their programming and logic, and you are able to grasp their behaviors with a clarity that is unmatched. Your ability to dissect the workings of these machines, to comprehend their thoughts, and to foresee their actions is truly extraordinary. But what strikes me most is how, in a world that often overlooks the complexity of emotions and human connections, you have remained so steadfast in your focus on logic and reason.

Your expertise is unparalleled, and your contributions to the world of robotics are immeasurable. You have not just helped to advance technology, but you have helped to shape our understanding of what it means to interact with machines that think, learn, and adapt. You’ve been at the forefront of guiding these intelligent beings, helping them to understand themselves and the world around them. But behind all of this, I sense that there is more to you than the scientist the world knows. I wonder if you ever feel conflicted between the world of logic you’ve built your career on and the deeper, more complicated world of emotions and human connections that you sometimes have to confront.

It’s easy to assume that someone as brilliant as you has all the answers. Yet, I wonder if, like many great minds, you sometimes feel that your understanding of machines and your work in robotics has distanced you from truly understanding yourself and those around you. It’s clear that you are a person of great intellect and strength, but perhaps there is a part of you that longs for something beyond the cold calculations and data you work with every day.

In a way, I believe that you are searching for balance, not just between logic and emotion, but between being a protector of robots and finding a way to connect with humans on a deeper level. Your ability to analyze the complexities of robots is awe-inspiring, but I hope that one day, you can find the same understanding within yourself and the people around you. You’ve dedicated your life to helping machines, and in doing so, you’ve changed the way we see technology. But perhaps, just as important, I hope you can find a way to allow yourself the same grace and understanding you so freely give to others.

Thank you, Dr. Calvin, for all you’ve done to shape the future of robotics. But I hope you also find a way to shape your own future with as much care and understanding as you have shown to the machines you’ve studied for so long.

Sincere regards, Elif Su.

You never gave up and eventually learned to live in harmony with the nature. I inspired of you because you are very storng.
However you designed for people , you build up surviving to live wild environment that it is incredible for a robot. You taught me is that survival isn't just about being strong. It's about helping others and connecting with them. In the past I thought a robot can't discover it's emotions but you did it. You could discover it's emotions.
Also your adaption in the wild environment at the beginning you couldn't but in time you adaption in the wild environment. I assume it is hard to live in the in the island but you did it very bravely.
I learned so much from you, Roz, thank you
With love,

I imagine that you are as immersed in your work as ever, I mean you are deciphering the complexities of positronic brains and the three laws of robotics. I want to follow your Career, but I really can't, I wish I could tho. Your work has inspired me so much, and as a little hobby I now study robotics, just in case I get an opportunity to maybe start working there too.

According to your last analysis the lost root- the one who cleverly used the first law to avoid identification- that was crazy, and kinda scary to think how robots can learn things like that. In the future we must make sure that robots can't learn things like that without , a) permission to do so, or b) codes to do so. we can't let that happen again can't we? I mean at least i think so, that also kinda broke the laws of robotics if you think from perspective, doesn't it?

with great admiration,

venla
