Holden and Sally Meet up!

Holden and Sally finally met up "I felt like marrying her the minute I saw her" (Salinger 138). Needless to say he was very impressed. I've noticed how Holden gets easily impressed and obsessed with girls he sees. This matters because this illustrates his attachment issues toward women.

Sally Sees Old Friend

After act 1 was done in the theater, Holden and Sally were sitting on the bench during the intermission. Sally spots an old friend named George. Holden says "why don't you go on over and give him a big soul kiss if you know him?" (Salinger 141). Then, George went up to Sally and they struck up a big conversion, which was awkward. Overall, Holden got very jealous and was upset that this was happening on their date. This matters because Holden gets annoyed easily, and this may tarnish the rest of the date, or chances are further dates.

I've noticed Holden is always doing a bunch of random things and he acts a lot on impulse, such as going to the clubs or even going to NYC in the first place. This time Holden went to the drugstore. You would think he would buy drugs but instead he got a Swiss cheese sandwich. "So I went in this drugstore and had a Swiss cheese sandwich" (Salinger 149). All of this matters because Holden acts on impulse and doesn't think about anything he is about to do.

Holden's Loneliness

After a long eventful day Holden had lots of time to kill, he was all by himself. So he decided to go to the movies. "I went to the movies at Radio City, it was probably the worst thing I could have done" (Salinger 152). I've noticed how Holden hates sitting around doing nothing he is always on the move. This matters because we see how he is as a character he is always busy or doing something. It doesn't matter if its by himself or with other people. I think Holden gets super lonely when he is by himself in the big city.

Radio City Skates

On page 143, Sally hints at the idea of going ice skating, and Holden gives her his little, "I'll do it if you do" and then they rent skates. Sally wanted to rent a skating skirt, with Holden knowing exactly why. The skating itself went well, having the two flirt and Holden admire Sally half of the time. When they went inside for drinks, Sally seemed off and Holden could tell, so he got nervous. They couldn't get the drinks they wanted, but Sally sparked the conversation. Holden inches closer and the two discuss school and how it causes them to feel 'fed up'. Then, Holden goes on about how he hates the city and everything that has to do with it. This is important because it shows a point of vulnerability within Holden, and it's funny how it shows while he's out with Sally.

Call too Carl Luce

Carl is looking for someone to talk to because he is so lonely. So he decides to call up a old friend "I gave old Carl Luce a buzz" (Salinger 151). Him and Carl are going to meet up at the bar around 10 pm. So now Holden has a bunch of time to kill, what will he do. This matters he called Carl because he obviously wanted to talk to someone. I've noticed how Holden is always calling people and talking when he gets lonely.

Holden finally meets up with Carl at the bar and they started talking about girls and all. Holden keeps asking questions "hows your sex life?" (Salinger 159). I've noticed how Holden is looking and seeking for a role model and someone to look up to. This is important because Holden hasn't had a role model as of recently so he needs some good advice.
