The strength of gangs is group allegiance, and there is an underlying rule of hatred toward any faction that isn't associated with your gang.  The Capulets and Montagues fall under that  category, and their actions have consequences.
The tragic romance of Romeo and Juliet, as "star-crossed" lovers highlights one of the many obstacles that unfounded hatred creates. The fact that these two were forbidden to talk to one another--let alone love each other-- was too much for them to surmount.
Hatred benefits no one. Some say hatred is a detriment because it can lead to loss--loss of love, loss of experience, and loss of learning. I declared that I "hated" Shakespeare, but I really didn't, I just didn't understand it so I stayed away from it.
