Reversal - In this story, the kids have all the power when the power should be with the parents. The kids have the power because they control the veldt, they know how to play their parents to keep it open, and they have control over almost every aspect of their own lives, they don't need their parents anymore.

Bradbury develops a strong message to the reader that the advancement of technology is controlling humanity in terrifying ways. Technology has become the better parent of the children than the actual parents. Not only is technology affecting the children, but it is also affecting the parents by creating lazy habits and preventing them from learning how to properly raise their family.

Lydia and George Hadley- Their characters are starting to develop when the children are first mentioned in the story; they don't exactly know how to say "no" to them and always let the kids have what they wanted whether there are limits or not. For example, George says, "'You know how difficult Peter is about that. When I punished him a month ago by locking the nursery for even a few hours - the tantrum he threw! And Wendy too. They live for the nursery,'" (Bradbury, 2). Yet as the story continues, Lydia is beginning to realize the problem with the kids and the nursery; how it controls them and how they both give them everything they want, but the only "thanks" they get is hatred and disobedience.
Wendy and Peter Hadley- Their characters are starting to develop at many points in the story of disagreement or neglect with the parents; therefore creating the wrong bond between the parents and the kids. For example, when Peter says, "'Will you shut off the house sometime soon?... 'I don't think you'd better consider it anymore, Father,'" (Bradbury, 7).

Symbolism

In the Veldt, Bradbury uses symbolism for the main piece in the story. Bradbury uses the nursery as a symbol of a surrogate mother/parent figure for the kids to take care of them, along with the other technology in the house, rendering the parents useless to the kids. Bradbury, through this story, shows the problems with technology even though these are satirical by exaggeration.

The main conflict in the story is the effect of technology on the way people live and think. The nursery is taking control of the children's minds, causing them to rebel and disobey the parents. The parents are also affected by technology because it has not allowed them to learn how to properly take care of their children and how to control them.
