         <description><![CDATA[<div>Born: 1450<br>Death: Disappeared in 1499<br>Birthplace: Genoa, Italy. He later in life moved to England (1495)<br>Country Of Exploration: He sailed for Asia but found the eastern Canadian coast.<br>Year(s) Of Exploration: 1497-1499<br>Purpose For Exploring: He was sent by King Henry VII of England to sail for riches like gold and spices, as well to find a faster route to Asia along with trading opportunities. Cabot was also told by King Henry VII to explore the new world.<br>Disovery: John Cabot, although sent for a completely different objective, found Canada, more specifically the eastern coast of Canada.<br>Fact 1: Cabot was the second European to reach the new world (first was Christopher Columbus).<br>Fact 2: Cabot himself owned a relatively small ship known as the "Mathew."<br>Fact 3: Cabot was granted permission to go on a second expedition in 1498 by King Henry VII of England and never returned with the five ships he set sail with, it is still unknown as to what happened to him and his crew.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>
