The Restaurant at the End of the Universe is the second book in Douglas Addams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. It begins with the five travelers deciding to go to "Milliways" (the Restaurant at the End of the Universe). Along the way they face Vogons and the Police who are pursuing their leader for kidnapping himself. They do eventually reach the restaurant, but things are not quite what they seem.

One conflict in this story is between Zaphod Beeblebrox, one of the main characters, and an elevator as they are attempting to go up a few floors. In this world one of the luxuries that the average humanoid being can experience is the pleasantries of a sentient elevator. This specific elevator, however, is not in the mood to go up, so they have a bit of an argument. This is an example of a character versus character conflict.
(Adams, 43-47)
