I have a weird fear of talking on the phone. I hope through this 30 day challenge, I will feel comfortable talking to family, friends, and strangers alike on the phone. I know this is important because talking on the phone is just something necessary in life, whether it be to make doctor's appointments, talk to insurance agents, or confirm a job interview. I will know if I have succeeded if I have no trouble or anxiety when needing to make a call or when I see a call coming in. Also, I will know I’ve succeeded simply by putting in the practice and talking on the phone as often as I can with a variety of people for the 30 day practice run and after that.

The research questions I'm considering focusing on are:
~What causes people to have phone anxiety?
~What is the result of talking on the phone rather than texting?
~How can talking on the phone influence someone’s daily tasks?
~What is phone communication used for? Can it be avoided?
~In what ways is communication important in day to day life?
~How can phone anxiety be improved?

If you guys have any other suggestions for what else I can research to allow this issue to become a 9 page paper, or any other comments! Thanks :)

Alright, talking on the phone can be a strange thing in our days of nonstop texting, but it is something we should try to do more. Talking on the phone is more personal and it certainly gives our hands a rest. Plus, the more you talk on the phone the less anxiety you might have and maybe you might actually enjoy talking on the phone instead. Talking on the phone might be scary because you never know what somebody is going to say and you do not have the comfort of texting where you can read, not respond, or ponder a response.

This is a very important skill to have and will carry over into many different parts of your life. I think it would be important to flesh out who you will call and make sure days don't slip by where you don't feel the need to talk on the phone

I think this is a fear many people have in today's world of texting. I think a good way to start is by calling your friends and family, people you are comfortable with, and just having a conversation as if they were right in front of you. Also, having a neat picture of them to look at on your phone is helpful (it's helped me to look at the person's face). If that's not something that would help, put them on speaker, toss the phone to the side, and multitask. It's better in the beginning for it to slowly seep into your life. Going all out would be a little to freaky. Try calling your mom to tell her a joke and tell her you love her- that's a great start. Then slowly build up.
I think a good research question would be to look at how other people conquer their fears or anxieties, since it relates to why you are trying to change your goal and will help you to get over your fear.

I also have this phobia. I mean I never feel anxious or afraid to call my family members or friends. However, when it is college administrators, or just a call that is going to be something important, that is when it gets scary. I would practice at least a few times a day after school. Maybe you can have your parents call you and do some role play with you as if they were someone you are afraid to call.

I think if you're looking for a way to turn this into a 9 page paper, discuss the overcoming of phobias in a more general way. I feel like most people have a phobia or two and a good paper on someone actually overcoming one and your providing your story coupled with research could be a really effective paper about how to become a less scared person generally. Start with the phone and get more general.

I think that this is a really interesting topic to touch upon. My best suggestion would be just to try to put yourself in situations where you talk on the phone more often. You will inevitably improve when you practice more.

I get anxious when I need to call people too. I tend to start pacing while I'm on the phone, but it really helps me to go on a walk while I'm talking on the phone to help me concentrate as well as to expel my nervous energy. Also, what helps me is writing down what I want to say to that person when I call them. I think it would be really good to research not only phone phobia, but also phobias in general, like Joe said. You can do this!

There are two reasons to use the phone: personal communication and business. (By business I don't just mean work, but any transactions like making appointments, getting information, etc.) I think youshoudl work on both of those.
Here is some music to inspire you:
