         <description><![CDATA[<div>I think that we should return to a start time of 8:40.  Students start the school day one hour earlier, but they generally don't sleep in one hour later.  I think that the return to 8:40 would listen to a lot of caregiver complaints about starting so late and alleviate a lot of conflict that students have with activities starting after school. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>When people ask me about Sunnyside I always say, "it's a nice school", but then I don't know what else to say. It's hard to say what Sunnyside is all about or what we stand for or even what we're working towards every day. Yes, the report card standards, but there's more to school than just scores on a test or report card. I think we need to spend our first week deciding what we stand for or at least what we're working towards this year.&nbsp;<br><br>One place to start could be our SPSA goals. I think we need to look at our SPSA goals and choose measurable goals and action we can take to achieve them.&nbsp; If the goal is that our focal groups (or a percentage of our focal groups) are reading at grade level, then each grade level and teacher needs a plan of action to get them there. We keep doing the same thing every year and it's not working. If we're truly a school focused on anti-racist education, then we need to make sure we're doing all we can to get kids reading at grade level before they move on to the next grade. If teachers don't know how to do that, then we need to create an environment of collaboration where educators can ask questions, plan together, observe one another, etc.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>School Climate/Second Step</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Second Step is a wonderful SEL program, but I don't think we use it to its fullest potential. The language in SS needs to be used school-wide, even at recess and specials. Signage for STEP (problem solving steps), Rules for Learning, and other teaching points should seen everywhere around the school and students should hear them repeated as often as they hear about the 3 Bs.&nbsp;<br><br>Our school community feels very disconnected. People seem to do a great job building tight knit communities within their classroom, but it doesn't translate to the whole school. I think carrying Second Step throughout the school will help, but we're missing something really dynamic that I've felt at other schools. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Students at the younger grade level would have much more enthusiasm and energy if the school day began at 8:40am, ending at 2:40p, with the previous daily schedule in place.&nbsp; Students are dragging their feet after the lunch period, and barely have the joy/interest left in them.<br><br>Lack of Enrichments for all teacher- rather inequitable.  Enrichments are used to lesson plan, assess, and conduct meetings- something teacher no longer have time to do in the given school day. </div>]]></description>
