Henry VII and Elizabeth of York had their second son on the 28th of June 1491 in Greenwich, and named him after his father. Young Henry was a spoiled child that got what he wanted and never got punished, so when he did get in trouble, he had his personal ‘whipping boy’ who was the one receiving the punishment Henry was supposed to get. He was said to be tall and handsome, but also very clever, good at latin, maths, astronomy and music. Henry was a great singer, musician and composer. Not only was he musical, but also excellent at sports, loved hunting and horse-riding.

After Arthur (his older brother) died, Henry became the first one in line to be King. At the age of 17, Henry’s father died in 1509 which resulted in Henry becoming King just before his 18th birthday, the 21th April 1509.

Henry wanted to be a strong king, and he wanted a son to succeed him on the throne. But Henry was a terribly cruel King who executed all who disagreed with him, which also includes two of his wives.

Soon after Henry’s coronation he suddenly declared he would marry Catherine, his brother’s widow, after a few years earlier where he prevented cohabitation. Catherine was the daughter of the King of Spain and the marriage would surely create a strong alliance between the countries. Henry and Catherine lived happily together for almost 20 years as the perfect royal couple.

The happiness didn’t last for too long when Catherine had given birth to four sons who all died and only one daughter who later became Queen of England, survived. Henry had always wanted a son to succeed him after his death and it all resulted in him losing interest in his wife, becoming desperate for a son.

Henry started having affairs with other women, one of them being Catherine’s lady-in-waiting, Mary Boleyn. In 1525, Henry had had enough. He grew more impatient with Catherine not being able to produce him a successor he desired, ending up divorcing Catherine and married Mary’s sister, Anne Boleyn.

In 1534, Anne had a false pregnancy or a miscarriage. Henry saw the failure as betrayal and starts discussing what chances he had of leaving Anne without having to return to Catherine. Just two years later, Anne gets pregnant again, but when she heard that Henry was badly injured from a tournament, she went into shock and miscarried. Henry had her accused of adultery and treason that ended in her being beheaded the same year.

Just 11 days after Anne’s execution, Henry married Jane Seymour who finally had a son who was named Edward, but Jane had died of the infections from the birth. Henry probably loved Jane most among all his wives. He now had an heir who was first in line since he was a male.

In later years, Henry closed all the monasteries in England and took all the money from the Monks and Nuns. He threw all of them out on the streets to beg. Some of the monasteries were destroyed while others were sold to the nobility. With all this, King Henry became the richest Monarch in England, France and Spain wanted to destroy him so he needed a strong ally. He decided to marry a German Princess, Anne of Cleves, even if he didn’t like her. The marriage didn’t last long and they got divorced just 7 months later, July 1540.

Catherine Howard became Henry’s fifth wife the same month, but she was an unfaithful woman and Henry got furious. Two years later he accused her for treason and she was beheaded. Henry then married his last wife, Catherine Parr who liked family life and Henry was pleased with her.
