         <description><![CDATA[<p>During the civil rights era, there was growing awareness of discrimination faced by individuals with disabilities. This eventually led to the disability rights movement, advocating for equal rights  access and an end to discrimination practices in job opportunities and public accommodation. Helen Keller was a  part of the group and <strong>the first deaf-blind person to earn a bachelor's degree</strong>. After college Keller became a renowned speaker and author, gaining fame advocating for her community. Best remembered as an activist for disabled people, Keller also spoke out for woman suffrage, birth control, and pacifism.</p>]]></description>
