1. Why and how do we study literature? Why do we study TTTC?
We study literature in order to better understand the authors theme and perspective of the topic and environment within the text.  TTTC is studied to analyze the perspective of the Vietnam War and its soldiers hardships and traumas through motif and literary devices.
2. How are we affected by literary texts in various ways? How are we impacted by TTTC?
Literary texts have themes and connections to global issues as well as internal struggles within the reader, showing that the world is connected through shared ideas and emotion.  TTTC impacts the reader by identifying with global issues such as societal gender role struggles, mental health, the pressures put upon us by societies expectations versus out internal moral obligations.
3. In what ways is meaning constructed, negotiated, expressed and interpreted in TTTC?
Meaning is constructed, negotiated, expressed, and interpreted through literary devices and symbolism to enforce more broad universal ideas.

4. How does the structure of style of TTTC affect its meaning?
TTTC's style shows the perspective of many individuals and the horrors and tribulations faced within the war by the perspective of a man who has yet to heal and most likely never will from what he faced.

    1. How does the structure or style of a literary text affect meaning? Consider how Morrison's stream-of-consciousness, shifting points of view, and use of analepsis and prolepsis impact the meaning of the novel. 
    Structure and style accurately depicts emotions of the characters involved. As Sethes stream of consciousness continues during times of contemplating her actions, it shows her trauma and acknowledgment of herself unfold in true time. By changing perspective and jumping between time lines, it slowly builds to the characters as we read and allows us to make conclusions of them through separate histories

    Time and Space

    1. How important is cultural or historical context to the production and reception of a literary text? Consider the story of Margaret Garner, the Fugitive Slave Act, and other historical and cultural phenomena and how that has impacted the creation and reception of Beloved.
    Cultural and historical event and figures from the past set the scene for the inhumane and unforgiveable ways of our past.  By understanding the laws created by White people and the effects and trauma it brought upon Black people, we can fully embrace all perspectives of the novel Beloved.

According to Krumholz, Morrison’s novel "adapts techniques from modernist novels, such as the fragmentation of the plot and shifting narrative voice, to compel the reader to actively construct an interpretive framework" (109). How does the novel specifically address issues of gender, writing and power? How does the structure and style of the novel give voice to "the thoughts of the women of 124, unspeakable thoughts, unspoken" (Beloved 199)? 

    By switching narrative voice and plot fragmentation, it shows the fear of a female to voice her opinion and perspective without judgement of the male gaze.     Persepolis connects to TTTC by struggling with ones identity in a modern world while struggling with the past.  It also connects with Auschwtiz and After in the idea of being suppressed under an oppressive power.  Also with Beloeved in the sense of a struggle with the past/even a struggle with being educated.
    How does Persepolis connect to our world today?
    Persepolis identifies the struggle between the modern world versus your cultural/family ties, dealing with religion or ideology. Many in the world struggle between their modern values versus what they grew up to know as right, and finding a balance in between.
