It feels strange to watch a virtual version of a cell, real cells are alive and can be seen to be moving under the microscope.

Technology seems to be a hindrance is some ways when the students need help getting in/out of the game.

On one hand I see the students as being distracted by the game and often trying to "break" the game. On the other hand many students see the point that the teacher is getting at. But really is he taking up too much time and effort to teach such a simple concept?

I appreciate that this teacher is trying to deliver the lesson in a new and interesting way. The students appear to be engaged, however at times listening to the audio I wonder how much of the lesson they are absorbing, and how much of their concentration is being put towards the game elements that are not directly applicable to the desired outcomes. I think that without some measured outcomes it is difficult to determine how this measures up against traditional learning.

Just the beginning....

I think there is some distraction here as the students seem to be as fascinated by the game as they do the subject. That said, they are engaged and active in the experience and having played as characters in the game in the different states of matter, it would be interesting to know how well they do in explaining the concepts in a hands on lab or discussion. Even better, could they use the game themselves to create their own vision or learning environment for states of matter and then share this with their classmates. It provides the base or tool for them to go far beyond this first lesson and to begin to explore their own understanding of this and other concepts. LStott
