  • Faculty adoption, especially when sections use different texts and instructors don't want to change.

    • Solution - outreach, admin buy-in, testimonials

  • First Day Complete and similar bookstore programs also push out alternatives.

    • Solution - conversations with faculty about drawbacks - program is losing its shine, not always available first day, prices go up, barriers for students to opt-out since opt-in automatic

    Both Pitt and W&J have started circulating USB DVD players through the library for student use.


    They don't circulate much.

    Challenge - Library people power for OER


    Notes

    • Two library representatives at the University level task force

      • Course Coordinator - reports to the HEPC on our courses

        • More accurate reporting on resources we have / are using

      • Reports on state initiatives to the libraries

      • Libraries then disseminates that info to faculty


    Solutions

    • Add to agenda for RSE/SSI meeting

      • Investigate working group for the Libraries

        • Cross departmental - WVRHC, Discover, Instruction, Research, etc.

    • Make a formalized process for reporting, responsibilities

      • Establish connection between B&N and faculty

    • Identify campus OER champions (faculty, unit, discipline level)

    • Research best practices for monitoring adoption and adaption

    Also getting Provost to recognize the value of publishing them so faculty needing promotion/tenure are more incentivized.


    Solutions: Soliciting and downloading materials to put in an institutional repository. But how does that affect Discoverability?


    Raising awareness of OER quality with a Provost somehow.
