My idea of going on ‘a country visit’ was to visit Brookside Village Park, located in Caroline Springs, which is a five minute walk from my house. It’s a very quiet park surrounded by grass and nature, and is opened in a generally very quiet neighborhood that’s away from the main road. Although there was a playground, it had a very nice visual view of the natural surroundings such as rocks and plants, as well as a pit in the dirt where water goes when it rains down, creating a nice view of a lake.

As I walk into the park, I feel the bark and broken branches break under my shoes and the small sounds of the dirt crunching beneath my feet. I noticed the surrounding area was covered in the natural flora and fauna, which was the grass, flower roots, bugs and insects. I felt instantly relaxed as I felt the wind lightly brush upon my face and through my hair. The chilly and cold air surrounding me reminded me of the memories I shared during my childhood when i was in primary school exploring the creek behind my school, and discovering the way movement is shared through the natural habitats of other animals and plants. In the video you can see the tree branches and plants move ever so slightly to the wind, as the light breeze pushes them to create a beautiful movement, which reminded me of how they were dancing to the sound of the wind.

The area shared a home for the birds to freely move around between the thick and large trees, which allowed for a nice serenity when I was walking around. The birds singing in the trees and the sound of the wind whooshing through the tree leaves made a very flowing and soft sound that radiated in the video. I sat down on one of the benches and closed my eyes just to listen to the volumes that surrounded me, and how birds moved from the left side of my hearing to the other. By just sitting there and listening, I got to hear the beautiful sounds of nature; It became so comfortable for me to distance myself from being inside at home and hearing silence, to hearing the natural sounds of mother nature and how impact it is in such a stressed time. When i reflect on sound i like to think of the concept of listening deeply in order to connect to our environment and the beauty of it. (MiriamRoseFoundation, 2017)

Movement and Sound together create a harmonious surrounding, which has allowed me to envision the way land moves by sound and how sound moves through movement. While sitting near the area, I saw the way the grass grazed upon each other and upon the rocks, and although there wasn’t rain before, I envisioned the water flowing and splashing on the rocks to create a nice wet area. It brings up the notion of the environment expressing itself by the way it moves, and due to the natural conditions, deepens the connection with the past land owners. The space that movement and sound combine in create a beautiful locality of the park, and really makes me notice the finer details that I don't usually notice.

The sensual experience I had while I meditated and relaxed at the park is something that I want to bring into practice with young children. It can be a great area for children to learn and experience the outside world at such a close distance. Being able to touch their surroundings can peak their interest and make them understand the land they live on, and the purposes they have. As a future educator, interactive activities can be created to serve on extending their knowledge on movement in the habitat, as well as strengthen their relationship with nature.

References:
MiriamRoseFoundation, 2017, ‘DADIRRI (Official Miriam-Rose Ungunmerr Video) :: 3 minute promo’ Youtube, November 28, Viewed 13 May 2020 <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tow2tR_ezL8&feature=emb_title>

NFB, 2017, ‘R.
