The Cold War began when the United States and Soviet Union had different beliefs on government in 1949. It was a state of geopolitical tension after World War II between powers in the Eastern Bloc (Soviet/its satellite states) and powers in the Western Bloc (U.S./its NATO). The iron curtain called for Europe to lay divided with an East and West side. Germany had been split into two sections. The East was under control of the USSR while Western zones became the Federal Republic of Germany. Stalin had agreed to free elections in Eastern Europe and to enter war in Asia from which he had promised to return lost lands to Japan. Things would eventually not go as planned. The Soviet Union formed this alliance of a Warsaw Pact as a counterbalance to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

the United States and the Soviet Union fought together as allies against the Axis powers. After a while the relationship between both of them tensed up. The us also said that they will make more destructive weapons, as in atomic bombs. now since the 1950 s the united states has been committed to the survival of an anticommunist government in the region. during the cold war the United States didn't battle directly. the us was mainly involved because they didn't want the countries falling to communist. they were trying to fight the communist because they thought that if one country falls to communism all will fall after. This is the main reason for the us to get involved in the cold war.

Two major proxy wars that occurred in this time of events would be the Vietnam War and Korean War. In the Vietnam war, the Viet Cong were Vietnamese rebels in the South who fought against the Southern Vietnam government and the United States. Vietnamese Nationalists and Communists all had joined to fight against French, ending with a victory. The U.S. supported the French because they were opposed to communism and wanted to stop it from spreading. In 1973, U.S. eventually withdrawn themselves from war because of its unpopularity back at home and all the lives lost. The Korean War dealt with its division of one being North and the other South. North was communist and South was more democratic. On June 25, 1950 at the 38th parallel, North Koreans swept across in a surprise attack on South Korea. The U.S> supported South Korea with North Korea surrendering after MacArthur's surprise attack.

The Communist Party of China is the founding and ruling political party of the People's Republic of China. Communist leader Mao Zedong announced the end to the civil war between communist and nationalist party. The “fall” of mainland China to communism in 1949 led the United States to suspend diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China. for decades. In 1966, China's Communist leader Mao Zedong launched what became known as the Cultural Revolution in order to reassert his authority over the Chinese government. The period of the Cultural Revolution, which lasted from 1966 until 1977, was one of the most difficult in Chinese history. China's leader, Mao Zedong, had led a revolution that brought a form of government called Communism to the country in 1949. He launched the Cultural Revolution in order to maintain that system. Over 30 million were killed with many dying of hunger. The Great Leap Forward was an effort made by the Communist Party of China under the leadership of Mao Zedong to transform China into a society capable of competing with other industrialized nations, within a short, five-year time period. The campaign was led by Mao Zedong and aimed to rapidly transform the country from an agrarian economy into a socialist society through rapid industrialization and collectivization. However, it is widely considered to have caused the Great Chinese Famine. Overall, this Great Leap Forward plan was not successful lasting only 3 years.
