Question to the author: This chapter was written in 1987 before the mass introduction of digital technology bringing with it new confidence amongst consumers. Do you feel the ideas explored in this book are equally relevant today?

So is Curtis’ assertion that this model was rejected by people in power who did not like changing the status quo. 

Question: If  the machine principle has become our ideology and what drives people is power and politics, then what hope is there for change?

Question to the author: Whilst writing about the powerlessness of certain sectors of society, you have used language and sentence structure which is complex and difficult. Does this matter?

Question to the authors: you allude to Berger’s point that the designer’s way of seeing needs to be considered. I would be interested to know if/how this can be done and whether it was in the Arcade of Brussels.
