We are seeing something that is not part of reality that is made up of our own personal thoughts. This is my own way to cope up with stress because when I imagine things that would make me happy it reliefs my sadness and problems that I have been into. I would imagine things that would make me forget something once in a while and just go with the flow.

Nicole T. Daño

The title is a little bit different but I will explain it further along the way, to cope up with stress I usually engage with physical activities like dancing, I sometimes use this to escape and avoid stress, I also watch random movies, visit youtube and listen to music. These activities distracts me from the problems and stress that I have experienced, but suddenly I got into writing, there was this time where I was inspired to write my feelings out and suprisingly it felt great, I started to do and make random poems depending on what I felt and it went on and on. These activities helped me get through stress and has become a hobby, writing taught you are free to express yourself and everything you feel is valid, always write with your heart. Here's a work of mine, I don't usually share this but I guess i'd love to show it this time.
-Quiana Lamina

Stress is very common especially when it comes to academic, mixed with emotional and family problems and I often channel this problems in socializing with my friends, however, there are times that I would be too tired with all the social media and I just want to isolate myself, and during those times, I will resort to dancing. After a long and tiring day, I would go and open my playlist that is full of songs that will make me dance and it is mostly kpop songs since I really adore not just their songs, but as well as their choreography. Dancing is one of my ways of coping with pressure and it helps me releases stress, and it made me realize that no matter if it's a hardcore dance or just a simple rock-your-body step, it kind of distracts me for the meantime and diverts my attention away from all the pressure and stresses.

-Daal, Faith Andrei U.

I rarely fall back into my coping strategy, but when I do, I often find myself writing a character profile. I enjoyed doing this because since I lacked the skills to draw these characters, then I'd just write everything about them. I'd also write these characters base on my mood.
And then I'd imagine these characters going through the same situation as me. If I write about a character with a fiery temper, then this character would probably curse and smash things, if I write about a character who has an indifferent attitude, then they would probably just get on with it and forget about it the next day. Afterwards, I'd try to resonate myself with these characters, so that I could have an idea what actions I can do next or maybe I would ask myself "what would I do if I was this character?"

(Ps: We moved apartments last month and I couldn't locate where I packed my notebook which has the character profiles, so I just snapped a picture of a random notebook instead)

by: Danielle Antonia Lagnada

Crying makes me feel better. It is like releasing the frustrations and such. And if not cry, I also write. Either in a piece of paper or my note app. And lastly, I talk to the person that I am comfortable with. By this, it is my way of coping. This helps me a lot. It makes me feel better and at the same time, it helps me to move forward.

-Mary Divine Grace F. Cabahug

I usually play chess to divert my attention, but most of the time I read Wattpad because in every story I read I imagine that I am the character in the story and it feels like I am in what I am reading.

Reading stories and novels will always give me comfort and enjoyment. It gives me the euphoria especially that it allows me to be in a different world without distractions and give me vision of things that I never dreamed possible. Sometimes, I would imagine myself that I am part of the stories or in their world because I feel like in there you can have peace from the chaos that the reality world brought. And also, it is a great way for me to reduce stress especially that this online class exhaust and stress me so much. It is a nice way to escape from the bad happenings that we experience. And also reading helps my mind to be engage with my imagination and creativity. Honestly, it really influence me to be productive and it motivates me to strive harder especially if the character is goal-oriented. Reading stories also motivates me to write my own stories and enhaces my writing and comprehensive skills. It also taught me a lot of life lesson especially that I'm starting to prepare for the future. Even though reading novels and stories allows me to feel different emotions like it can fill eyes with tears one moment and make me laugh out loud the next, I still feel relax because I know that in the end it still gives me contentment and joy.

-Jorselle Lagura

When I saw the word stress, well, it didn't bothers me. No matter what comes in my life- problems, anxieties, stress or obstacles. They didn't bother me for I know God's promise will outshine them and replaces it with peace. I know life is hard but when I started to cast all my anxieties to God (1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxieties to Him because He cares for you) everything follows: good friends, new wisdom, needs, love, peace and He made me become a new person. I don't want people to view me as a religious person because in the first place before all of us are born, God is already there planning your future. I think this is also one of the reason why I don't stress or worry because God already finished our story and He knows the end part of it, so why stress about life when God is already in control.

-Debbie E.

Personally, I have learned a lot of ways to cope with stress along the way. I read a lot of books and watch a variety of movies/series to distract my mind and find comfort and escape from reality. However, after all this momentary escapade, I have to come back and face the stress again. No matter how much I tried to distract myself by doing so much things, only by trusting my belief system I could find serenity. The faith in me, bound to God in whom I seek refuge and strength of is my solace . When things are beyond my control that I can no longer contain the pain and anxiety; like a lonely child longing for her parent, I find myself calling and asking God to help me. I know my weaknesses and I know myself more than anyone else. Yes, I am weak and I need strength which I could only find in Him (also my family :)) ).

For me, my best way of coping stress and anxiety is by asking for His help not just through prayer, but also valuing the essence of silence and being in a moment with Him. After venting my feelings, I stay silent for a while. I find this method relaxing; in my mind I finally found warmth and peace. So lost in the moment that I may look lonely but not alone, never. Listening to some songs to ease my mind and at the same time living this tiny span of moment with God and then come back stronger to face reality once again.

-Meryl Althea V.

Martie Jill B. Cereneo

It is slightly hard for me to classify which of the categories do my coping strategies belong since I am a spontaneous person and I apply a certain coping strategy depending on the thing that stresses me. So, I will just place it into the category that is mostly evident on my coping tactics - PHYSICAL.

I like activities that mostly requires action or usage of whatever part of my body. Most often, when I am extremely negatively stressed out, I play an upbeat music and dance along with it and my favorite disney songs and imitate the singers. I just like dancing and other physical activities simply because my body is diverting my mind's attention from negative stressors which helps me think, even just for 3 minutes, that I am in my own world.

I have other effective coping techniques for myself, which are present in the file attached, like cooking, watching movies, reading books or spending time with the people I care and love.

How do I cope with stress? Well, I have multiple strategies on how to cope with it, but all of them always tend to be either temporary or just makes things worse, which makes me question if this is even a strategy, but it does have a 80% chance of calming me down, and a 20% chance of mild stress to sending me into a pit of crippling stress or severe emptiness that reminds me that I am but a speck in this world and everything I do and every problem I have is meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
Now that I am hearing it, it almost doesn’t sound like a strategy. But considering it’s an 80% chance and that the chance of having an existential crisis is “slim” (Get it, cause it’s not haha humor). But the strategy that I use is called “Self-Questioning with a chance of doom”, well the doom part is not included but it’s kind of a way of making me feel like I shouldn’t use this, but I do. The strategy is kind of a mix of imagination and cognition, well, I am using the imagination part right now so this entire thing won't sound bland as hell, but the strategy is mostly cognition and is my way of questioning myself,
“Does this hold more value than the other? Should I do this first cause it’s near the deadline and isn’t all that difficult?”
“Is sitting here stressing stress, all that productive? Does it make me finish this in time? No? then why do it?”
“I should do this first so that I won’t be stressed by it later, yeah that’s a good idea.”
“Can I control the situation? I can’t? Then there is no point worrying about it, it’s out of my hands.”
This is mostly the basic stuff of coping, the strategy really depends on what you’re currently doing and you should apply most of your focus on that thing that is causing the stress, if the situation is of great importance then the stress matches with it, and then the battle begins. If you win then you become focused more on the task and may finish it sooner, if you don’t then there is a reason why the doom part is there. I have tried this method and the part where you lose always ends up with me being down and being pessimistic, and worst case the emptiness, this is the difficult part cause this is the most time consuming, either you get lost watching random things or you find ways to fulfill or feel satisfaction or a sense of pleasure, to then be disappointed that it barely did anything, which makes the situation worse. To put it “simply”, To avoid the situation entirely is to be nothing at all, not offing yourself because that would, you know, be bad. But to be in this situation is simply having this thinking of wanting to vanish, the least painful way out. Which we know is impossible, which either leads you to a state of just lying there not moving or not wanting to move at all, or you go through the stages of a straight-up mental breakdown. And that my friends, is the coping strategy, but don’t worry this stage rarely happens and I have had a few friends who do a similar strategy as me, so don’t worry about it because that would be stressful, and being stress-out from a coping strategy is well, duh.

But anyway, a friend of mine says it will just fade away slowly or quickly, but that depends too. Anyway, stay safe.
-Miguel Andrei P. Algarme

For me, my best coping strategy might be concerned with the Affect.

I am an emotional person. I put my feelings in everything that I do, except when I absolutely should not do so. I am vocal, I rant when I'm mad or angry, and I express my exhaustion every once in a while. I do my best to let the things I hold in that can be expressed freely, out so as to ensure that my heart bucket (the thing I call that fills up every time I feel things, that collects the heavy emotions that I swallow and keep to myself) is free and spacious. These are expressed to my friends and rarely, my family. I share them to my friends because I feel that they will most likely understand what I am saying because we may be going through the same thing. Because I was raised in a family who didn't really model good communication and open expression of feelings, I was forced into exile, keeping everything everywhere but home.

A good thing that happened to me recently is the new bond that I have developed with my sister. On the previous year, she had practiced a new faith and it has made wonders on our relationship because it has helped her think through everything in her life and it has impacted me the most. She shared many things to me, she made me understand and feel that I can talk to her about anything, and most importantly, she has helped me get to know more about Jesus and it has been one of the few things that have helped me cope up in the past couple of weeks. My coping strategy can also be connected to Belief but majority is on the Affect.

For me, this coping strategy has helped me release discomfort and pain. Because I can express my emotions through talking to or chatting with someone, I usually feel that my negative feelings are eased.

-Marie Joy L. Tumulak

But as I get older and I learn so much about myself, what life is etc. in this time of COVID-19 I realize that It's okay to feel vulnerable, It's okay to show everyone that you're not okay and that's fine.

🌼KGDG

The world we live in today can be very cruel and tiring. And sadly, many succumb to the pressures of the world.

My coping mechanisms towards stress and anxiety mainly focuses to the PHYSICAL coping style because the main causes of these troubles are coming from things that I always do, or needs to be done. Basically, my stress and anxiety is already part of my lifestyle, (which I know is unhealthy) but this helps me as well because this means that I really value the things that I do.

I deal with all of these by dancing, doing makeup, creating new doodles or icons, drawing, doing photoshoots and even watching series and movies. I do these things to give myself a moment of pause or a breather from the stress because I can't work effectively or create something beautiful if everything is not in place.

I believe that stress is a part of our lives because this signifies that an individual cares enough to be bothered and pressured. But if it gets out of hand and affects your productivity and efficiency, we have to take a moment to breathe and reflect if the amount of stress it gives still benefits you or not. In my life, I am always surrounded with things that gives me stress but I am lucky because I learned something from it and helped me as a growing person. Stress can lead us to mistakes but it also comes with a reward of a lifetime, and those are lessons that can mold someone too.

-YUWAN PRESBITERO

As an adolescent, I am no exception to stress, as well as hurdles, that everyone is experiencing. I often cope up with anxiety and other challenges using my imagination, specifically reading fictional stories. Fiction made me forget the stress by making me immersed in the story. In my opinion, stories are a great diversion. It does not only divert one's attention but also entertains. Once entertained, I would slowly be relieved of the stress I was having. It does not only divert my attention but also open my eyes in certain situations and behaviours of people. Stories convey lessons so that it will help influence the readers in a particular case. It relieves and refreshes my mind of the pressure it was enduring making me more focused on my tasks and responsibilities. And also, it made me avoid getting depressed and anxious about myself.

-Ada Angela B. Mercado💚

As the term “R & R” implies, the coping strategy that best helps me cope with stress and the challenges that I am and will be facing as an adolescent is “Rest and Recreation”, by means of physical activities.

Aside from watching anime, movies and series of any genre, reading books, and listening to music, I counter stress by seeking for something to do, something to release my frustrations and just sweat it all out. Being a person who is inclined to music, I find singing and dancing (especially) as enjoyable pastimes. I just think that being able to move mindlessly, just enjoying and getting lost in the beat is a beautiful thing. Through dancing, I am able to genuinely express myself and hone the talent that I may possess. Besides that, I also find time to perspire through exercise, through working out at least three times a week, because I’m body-conscious and I just thought it wouldn’t hurt to lessen my guilt for being a food lover. Normally, I would prefer to go on an early morning walk or jog. But with the pandemic we are facing, I had to adjust and find an alternative as we are kept in our homes. Honestly though, it’s been tough for me to be consistent, since online classes make me feel too tired or too occupied with school work, and I usually get struck with the curse of laziness (lol). With all these activities, I also make sure that I do not neglect my health. I eat properly, not too much and not too little, I make an effort to drink the appropriate amount of water, and I drink vitamins to boost my immune system, all on a daily basis. And most importantly, I make certain that I get proper rest (although I end up sleeping very late on most days hahaha).

All in all, I cannot deny that I am easily stressed (coupled with anxiety); but these coping strategies have helped me greatly in keeping myself healthy, whether physically or mentally. I believe that it is important to create a diversion for oneself, especially when we are overwhelmed with certain tasks and responsibilities. Sure, success is something that we should strive for, but it is a salient point that we find time to pause, rest, and recuperate.

Stay healthy and happy, y’all! <3

- Rhena Vick R. Well, I have multiple strategies that it's hard to specify, but one of my strategies are actually trying new things or mentaining and improving the skills i have already acquired. Well, to elaborate I keep myself busy by learning stuff such as history, cooking, laws, and more. Also I constantly wander around and take photographs as I am also a photographer, and also I'm trying to do the rosary every afternoon, and also i try to interact with my friends if we are available and spend time chatting online for hours, but my greatest achievement that i have right now is me working out again, and now it's early and consistent that my body felt so much better than before when i re incorporate it to my lifestyle and also made me sleep early and better at night, it's not perfect yet but as I'm doing new things and making me spiritually, mentally, and physically better everday.

So how I cope up my stress is making foods. I am really thankful to God for giving me such talent. I really like it when I make some food and it turns out great. If I make some food, all of my nephews and nieces will like it so much to the point that they will ask me to cook a certain food again because the food I gave them are not enough for them. If I am stress, I only cook food and that feeling when you taste it then it turns out good, it really relieved my stress. So Food is Good to relieve stress❤

Peaen Louise Yap

Lately, for months I've been dealing with stress and sometimes, I get to the point that I can't handle my moods and emotions anymore. I tend to be destructive, I usually self destruct when I am on the verge of breaking down. So what I do is I cry my heart out silently. I vent it out while questioning my worth and everything about me. Sometimes, I tend to seek for attention and validation, I ask for words that can lift me up when in fact sometimes it does not make me feel good. Honestly, I am on my lowest for the past weeks but I try to be okay because that's the only option that I have. To keep going. When sometimes everything's too much I just cry and cry because I know, hopefully everything will be fine. I will be just fine. I may be so down today, but I know sooner I'll be fine. I may feel empty and broken today, but I know I'll get a grasp of what I had lost soon as I regain my self back in the future.

- MA. NAZIA A. BINAGATAN

Lately, I’ve been struggling on how I balance my time in doing my school works, household chores, and time for myself and family. I can’t synchronize everything, it gives me so much pressure and I feel so exhausted because not only in school, I have still other things to be done like helping my lil bro on his school works. Also, I always keep my problem to myself that I’ve been facing, I don’t have anyone who can I lean on because of busy schedules. I can really say that, it damages me physical, emotionally and mentally. I keep on overthink as a result it can worsen my anxiety.

But as I grow up, it changes my perspectives and set my mind to be always positive. I surround myself with nothing but happiness and positivity, well I know we've encountered so much difficulties in life but I try to think the brighter side like thinking to the people who have always been there for me through all ups and downs just like my friends, cousin, and siblings, they the one who can I count to. Most especially I put God in the center of everything. With that I can say that I did manage to cope up the dilemmas that I am and will be facing in the future.

I learned that quality time doesn’t always have to be an event. It could be a conversation at dinner, the sharing of our daily experiences before going to bed, watching them smile, laugh and interact with each other. I’m grateful for them, for having my back, and for the years of fun, craziness and laughter. I’m grateful for them calling me out when I need to be, how well they know me, for being a sounding board, for supporting me and comforting me when I’m down.
"I can count on you like 4, 3, 2 you'll be there cause that's what friends are supposed to do"
After all, that’s what true friends and family are for :>
-mau-

Eating is something that could make me feel alive and energetic, without food I feel not so lively. When I'm in time of stress, my mood change quickly. When I'm stressed with my schoolworks or any other thing that could make me stress, I'd rather prefer to eat than to keep my self busy in other things, all I have to do is to
eat when I'm in the middle of stress. Actually, when I eat especially sweets, my mind feel fresh and comfy.
Something fresh that could make my interaction to people very well and also make me feel refreshing.

Shanlyn T.
