Connie is a fifteen year old girl. She has brown eyes, has long dark blond hair that draws anyone's attention to it, and she wore part of it pulled up on top of her head, puffed out, the rest fell down her back. She wore a pull-over jersey blouse that looked one way at home and another way outside her home. Connie had a childlike bobbing walk, or it could be languid. Her mouth was a smirking pale, but bright pink on evenings out. The laugh she had was cynical at home, or a high pitched nervous laugh anywhere else. Everything about Connie has to sides to it. Connie lives a conservative life at home, while she presents herself differently outside of her own home. Connie doesn't receive recognition from her parents, for they only favor her older sister June. Connie is trying to find herself in this world.

Arnold Friend

Arnold states that he is a teenager, but he appears to be a thirty year old man, maybe older. He had fair brown hair, with a lock that fell onto his forehead. His sideburns gave him a fierce, embarrassed look, his hair was shaggy, and looked as if it could be a wig. Arnold had a convertible jalopy, painted gold, with his full name carved onto the side. Arnold Friend, had his sunglasses that hid his dark eyes, it seemed as if it was his shield. He has a determined persona, for he will eventually get his way. Arnold wasn't tall, maybe an inch taller than Connie if she were to be eye level with him. Arnold Friend was dressed in black tight faded jeans, scuffed boots, a belt that pulled his waist in and showed how lean he was, and a white pull-over shirt that was a little soiled and showed the hard small muscles of his arms and shoulders. Arnold gave off the vibe that he seemed he did work. He had a familiar face. Arnold wanted Connie, only her, and was determined to get her

Ellie Oscar

Ellie Oscar is Arnold Friend's friend. He also claims to be a teenager, but as Connie gets a good look at him, he too appears to be a man, instead of a boy. Ellie had the face of a forty-year old baby. He wore a bright orange shirt unbuttoned halfway to show his chest, which was a pale, bluish chest and not muscular like Arnold Friend. His shirt collar's tips were pointed up, past his chin. Ellie seemed to not have a care in the world; for he was always in a daze listening to the radio, ignoring the conversation amongst Connie and Arnold. He had a shy personality, didn't say much, for he was a quiet, reserved guy.

Connie's mother is bitter to Connie, and jealous of her. Connie and her mother bicker with one another, over how Connie never does anything to help around the house, that Connie must quit being vain. Connie's mother was once pretty, but her looks were now gone. That is why the mother of Connie was after her all the time. The mother of Connie praised her other daughter June. It never mentions a name for Connie's mother, it also never really gives a vague description of her physical features.

June is Connie's older sister. She is twenty-four and still lives at home. June's profession was a secretary in the high school Connie attended. She was so plain and chunky and steady that Connie had to hear her praised all the time by her parents. June would do what was asked of her, even not asked of her, for she was the perfect child in her parents eyes. One good thing about June is that when she would go out to hang with her friends, Connie was allowed to go out too. June was a goody two shoes, her personality was sort of stuck up. Neither were June's physical features, were given.

Connie's father is hardly mentioned throughout the story. He is rarely involved in any activities or conversations. The father of Connie seems to be unbothered of what is going on with his family, he is just there to be there. Connie's father was quiet and bald. It never reveals his name in the story nor does it give a vague description of his physical features.
