Escape room
We have used BREAKOUTedu for different aspects of learning at our school. One of the great things is that we create it so that if you are not working as a team and helping each other it is very difficult to win on your own. It creates a social environment, with a sense of urgency.
This can be course based, or just used as an intro activity for the students (an ice breaker). There is almost always a debriefing time at the end and this is a great time to see and help the students understand the importance of effectively collaborating/socializing with the people around you.

*listening
*communicating

Lesson: Dining in the dark. The idea is to eat and communicate with your peers in the dark. Your senses are heightened and you are relying on each other. The students will bring in the foods they want to eat and share or this lesson can be done at a restaurant that actually does dining in the dark. You are communicating and listening to one another actively and effectively as this is a unique scenario.

In Art class we always face the difficulty in grouping students, because they will only group with their buddy friends and there's always someone being left.
We come up an idea of grouping, which I think is also important to learn in social skill. Teacher will choose leaders first (depend on our observation) and call them director(Art director, film director, manager...etc), when the rest of the students draw lots. they'll draw a title of a job according to the setting, such as designer, writer, artist, PR, etc. If they don't feel like doing what they got, they can switch with team member (someone has to do the job and they have to open the discussion) .Since they're not closed friend and decision have to be made, the old power dynamic will be break. Therefore everyone made a better team based on "talent", and they'll have to work on what they've been given.

Mini-lesson plan- social skills 1.Grouping- 3-4 different learning ability students in one group. 2.Assign one topic for each group - conduction, convection, and radiation 3.Research process - give all students 2 days to do their own research, and learn independently (provide students some tools ). 4.Small group discussion - students with same key word/topic communicate with each other first, they should deliver/share their findings to/with their members, build on other’s ideas and generate new/better ideas. They work with each other and make their own materials for a presentation. 5.Whole class presentation - different groups with different key words share their work with the whole class, one group do their presentation, others need take some note, ask some questions, giving feedback/response, then they make a turn, they should learn from each other, challenge with each other, their knowledge finally is all developed.
