Throughout this module i will discuss a few of the many dance styles that i am currently training in such as commercial, Jazz Ballet and Contemporary.
My strengths in Jazz i personally think would be my dynamics and use of levels. Dynamics meaning how soft or sharp i do a movement, for me i feel that its important to show different dynamics throughout a routine. In one of my Jazz lessons i am learning the Matt Mattox jazz technique, this technique involves a lot of isolation, propulsive rhythms and levels. In the Matt Mattox jazz technique video i have shown below of the travelling exercises that we have learnt in class it is important to be in a deep pile for this particular sequence and not go any higher from when you begin.I feel that the strengths that i have in Jazz have stemmed from my commercial training as levels and dynamics are used in commercial.

My personal strength of style overall would be Commercial. My main strengths in commercial would be musicality and my retention skills. The clip below was filmed minutes after learning this combination for the first time, as shown in the clip Maya and Georgia forget the choreography however i remember it which shows that my retention is one of my strengths. Another strength that is shown within this clip is my musicality which is just keeping in time with the music.

        ( Commercial clip below).

My personal weakness of style overall would be Ballet. Ballet is a challenge for me as it is the totally different compared to commercial, ballet all exercises consist of your feet being turned out rather than parallel at the very start of ballet training i found this uncomfortable and awkward. However, ballet training compliments in my commercial training as it helps your posture and alignment and strengths stomache muscles. One exercise i struggle with in ballet is my pirouettes, in ballet pirouettes are used very often and most likely in lesson we will be asked to perform either a double or triple.

"Pirouette is a classical ballet term meaning “spin.” It describes when a dancer is turning around one leg with the other off the ground and in a position, most commonly in passé. A pirouette can be done either en dedans, turning in towards the supporting leg that the dancer is turning on, or en dehors, which is turning away from the supporting leg. [https://ballethub.com/ballet-term/pirouette/] [BalletHub. 2017]
(Pirouette clip below)

I struggle with the performance side of the contemporary technique such as the use of breath. This relates back to the practitioner Martha Graham. The use of breath helps your muscles to relax this this increases flexibility and range of movement.
(Contemporary video)

Over the last Semester i have become a lot more confident within the technique classes which are Ballet, Jazz and contemporary. At the start of the course i was very nervous about entering the technical classes as i knew there were a challenge, even though i found the technical classes challenging i still turned up and tried and now have become better in the classes. One thing i have improved on in Jazz is my leaps.
( video of leaps below

Assignment Brief Core Technique 2

I have done my independent research and I have chosen Eugene Louis "Luigi" Facciuto as my a modern or post-modern practitioner as I can relate to the genres and styles because I have studied him throughout my module. I will analyze the choreographers intentions and stylistic qualities while relating them to my study on this course. I have chosen Luigi because I really enjoy his technique and the story behind his technique.

Eugene Louis "Luigi" Facciuto was born in Steubenville which is in the United States he was born on the 20th of March 1925 and was the eighth of eleven children. Luigi's father passed away when Luigi was 5 years-old leaving one of his brothers named Tony Facciuto to guide him in his father's footsteps. Luigi's family began to struggle for money so Tony began to coach Luigi in dancing and singing to enter competitions and win cash prizes. His talents became very successful as he started to performing at special events such as weddings and then went onto being in a band which he was a part of for five years.

During World War II Luigi joined the U.S. Navy when he was 18 years old he stayed there for 3 years and returned to his family when he was aged 21. After enrolling to be a lawyer in college he then moved to California to enroll in his first ballet class. However, Three months after he enrolled in his first ballet class with Luigi was involved in a horrific car crash leaving Luigi paralyzed on the left side of his face and on the right side of his body he then had double vision and was crossed eyes. After the car crash doctors told Luigi that he couldn’t walk again Luigi's reply was "“I don't want to walk; I’m going to dance" [B.singh 2009]. This shows that instead of giving up he was determined to dance even though he went through such a life changing experience and was told that he couldn’t walk again. Him as a person and also his work ethic inspires me so much and I feel grateful that I get to train in this technique on this course.

Luigi started creating his own ways of stretching, balancing and use of isolation of his muscles which gradually enabled him to continue his dance career which would work on regaining strength and control over his body, as the Conventional therapy wasn’t helping his body. Luigi had his own technique which consists of is a variety of exercises which promotes correct body alignment, balance and core strength, my left hip is injured but when I do his warm up I feel that some of the stretched that he has designed helps strengthen my hip. So not only did he create a technique beneficial to his body but to others with injuries also. Luigi sadly passed on the 7th of April in 2015, aged 90.
