In the EUSALP area we have 16,4 mio. ha forests. Mountain forests are also more and more affected by climate change. They are changing.

Certain organic soils are shrinking and in the long term partly disappearing. We will lose "range" of forest ecosystems.

In remaining forest areas the habitat condition or even the habitat type will change.

Restoration is not seen as priority topic, also in the Alpine region (in the larger context other challenges prevale, however they are might be connected like e.g. natural disasters and CC)

There are major limitations to "plan" on local-scaled, privately owned and agriculturally used land. Solutions and "knowledge-building" with private land-owners need to be enhanced to possibly enable change: e.g. enable possibility for peat and bogland restoration on organic soils. Also necessary are financial compensation opportunities to compensate potential economic losses.
