The Long Walk is a story set in a future dystopian America, ruled by a militaristic dictator. The plot revolves around the contestants of a walking contest, held annually by a totalitarian version of the US, in which one hundred applicants are chosen at random to participate. The main character is Ray Garraty, one of the one hundred boys walking in The Long Walk. The contest is simple: The boys must keep a steady pace of four miles per hour without ever stopping, with the winner being awarded ¨The Prize¨-anything he wants for the rest of his life. There is no finish line- the winner is the last man standing!

I recommend reading this book if you´re into dystopian futuristic plots. The story is really interesting and is pretty much a psychological thriller/horror.

Significant Quote:

¨They walked through the rainy dark like gaunt ghosts, and Garraty didn't like to look at them. They were the walking dead.” (Pg. 243)
-This quote shows the reality of the Long Walk and what the journey is like for Garraty and the other boys participating in The Long Walk. After a while, they become aggressive/ angry, their will to live diminishes, and they become mentally and physically exhausted. This helps to portray the theme of psychological horror.
