Mama and Big Mama think that Cassie is sick although she is worried about the white men and that they found out that they were the ones that dug the hole to get the bus stuck. Another main event that happened was when Stacey was caught cheating and T.J and Stacey get in a fight because T.J did not take the blame although it was his fault. Another main event that happened was when Mama took Cassie, Stacey, Little Man and Christopher to see Mr. Berry and explain to them the reason why they do not want them to go to the Wallace Store. Cassie is acting odd so Big Mama and Mama try figure out what's wrong with Cassie. Then Cassie joins the boys. T.J. is talking then T.J. is says something about the night night riders but doesn't say because it for adults and not kids.T.J. try to hold the suspense for as long as possible but when T.J. says he can't tell so Stacey says then don't but to keep the suspense going he tells them. When then T.J. leaves but comes back for hat but instead was found in Mama room get the answers for the upcoming test but is caught by Cassie and the boys find he slips his way out of it . But T.J. pulls them out on the way to school but Stacey takes them and rips them. When Cassie was waiting for Stacey Cassie noticed that T.J. ran off instead off waiting for stacey like always. So cassie asked one of stacey friends and he said stacey got wiped by mama in front of everybody and it's T.J. fault when mama noticed the notes she was walking towards T.J. when he slipped the notes to stacey and stacey was caught with them. Stacey is made and goes to find T.J. to fight and they go to the wallace store and fights T.J. but Mr. Morrison finds them and takes him home and says he won't tell but let them decide to or not cassie and the other boy s aren't going to but Stacey is they beg him not to but he does. T.J then told the Logan children about the tarring of Mr. Tatum. The next day Stacy got caught with T.J's notes that T.J slipped on his desk. Stacy got punished in front of the whole class. After school T.J went to the Wallace store hoping Stacy wouldn't look for him there, but Stacy went to the Wallace store followed by Cassie, Little man and Christopher-John. Stacy saw T.J and punched him they got into a fight that Mr. Morrison broke up. Mr. Morrison told the Logon children in the wagon he wasn't gonna tell Mama that they had to tell her themself. Stacy told Mama and she sent them to bed early then woke them up early the next day and took them to the Berries to show them children what the Wallaces did to Mr. Berry. cassie was acting very quite resiliently about the bus thing and about the men that pulled up at her house at night. because she was scared that if she told anybody about the bus thing she and her family will get into a lot of trouble and she does not want to tell her mom about the white men that pulled up because she thinks that they were there because of what they did. she also remembered as she was churning the butter that her and her sisters and brothers made a promise not to tell anyone about it

Next in the chapter Stacey was taking a test and his friend T.J was cheating on it.Then the teacher stared walking over there and he gave it to Stacey then when Stacey got it the teacher was right there.The teacher gave Stacey a zero and Stacey didn't tell the teacher it was T.J who was cheating on the test not him.Mama came to the school and she punished him in front of the whole school.After that Stacey followed T.J and he asked everyone where T.J went and they told him so he went after him.Stacey caught him at the Wallace store and started fighting with him.Mr Morrison stoped the fight and made all of them get in the wagon,then they asked was he going to tell mama and he said no you can tell her.

Then later in the story T.J. came to the logans house. T.J. was explaning how he got out of doing his housework all of the time . Then T.J.stated that stacey should try to find the answer to the test and cheat. Even T.J. notice the weird way they were acting. And T.J. says '' did you guys hear about those night men''. The kids suddenly pay attention. T.J. states '' well 'bout a week ago they rode down to Mr. sam Tatum place you know what they done''. On T.J. ways out the kids caught him looking at mama's black.When questioned T.J. said that they must of thought he was cheating.

The next day the kids were waiting at the 7 grade class building. As the door banged open T.J. shot out the school yard. Cassie asked a student what is going on and where is stacey. The student explain why stacey got whipped for cheating. Stacey got out and tried to find T.J. . And they all go to the wallace store . And when stacey found T.J. thier was a big fight. As the fight got intense. A tall black man stood over them it was Mr.morrison . He said get in the wagon. On the way home they all pleaded not for him to tell mama. He said that he wasent going to tell mama they were. And they did. That saturday moma took them over the grangers house and they told them of how bad the wallace peoplae are.

T.J ran to the Wallace store and Cassie and her brothers decided to follow him there. At the Wallace Store, they did not know what was happening and decided to leave when they heard a call from someone. Then when they went to school they were doing the test then TJ pulled out another cheat sheet.Stacey saw it and told him to put it away but he refused to do it.
