WEEK 3 : PILLARS OF ISLAM

The first pillar in the islamic pillar is believing in Allah and surah Al Fatihah can be relate to it.Surah Al fatihah contain seven verses which taught us on how each verse attribute to the belief in Allah.

	1.	The first verse emphasizes Allah’s boundless grace and mercy, reminding us that He alone is worthy of worship. All blessings are signs of His mercy.

	2.	The second verse declares Allah as the Lord of all worlds, showcasing His power and authority over everything in the universe.

	3.	The fourth verse portrays Allah as the Master of the Day of Judgment, the One with ultimate authority to reward or punish.

	4.	The fifth verse teaches us to seek help from Allah alone, reaffirming His role as our sole source of support.

	5.	The sixth verse highlights that only Allah can guide us to the right path.

	6.	The seventh verse directs us to seek the straight path, avoiding the ways of those who incur anger or go astray.

The fourth pillar of Iman in Islam is belief in the angels. This belief is exemplified in Surah Al-Infitar (10-12), where it is mentioned that angels are assigned to observe and record every action and intention of an individual, whether good or bad. These records will be presented on the Day of Judgment. This serves as a reminder for us to remain mindful of our actions and intentions, as they carry weight in determining our ultimate accountability before Allah.

As I reflect, I realize there are many aspects of Islam that I didnt fully understand and confused. By joining this Usrah, I have had the opportunity to learn new things that I can apply in my daily life and guide me to the better understanding of Islam. Additionally, I have met new people with whom I can exchange perspectives. I'm looking forward to joining Usrah 2 in the future!!🤩

Salah with Khusyu’ Leads to True Success

“Indeed, successful are the believers – those who have khusyu’ in their prayer.”

Surah Al-Mu’minun: 1–2

🔹 Allah begins the description of successful believers by mentioning khusyu’ in prayer.

🔹 This shows that true inner peace and eternal success starts with a heart that is focused in salah.

2. It Protects from Sin and Immorality

“Indeed, salah prevents immorality and wrongdoing…”

Surah Al-‘Ankabut: 45

🔹 But this only happens when the prayer is performed with awareness and presence

🔹 A distracted prayer won’t transform you, but a mindful one will clean your soul.

3. Salah with Khusyu’ Wipes Out Sins

“When a Muslim performs wudu properly, then prays two rak‘ahs with khusyu’ and devotion, all his past minor sins are forgiven.”

Sahih Muslim

🔹 A single prayer done sincerely and mindfully becomes a clean slate.

4. It is the Month of the Qur’an

“The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an…”

— Surah Al-Baqarah (2:185)

	•	The Qur’an was first revealed during this month.

	•	Reciting and reflecting on it brings immense reward.

🕋 2. Fasting in Ramadhan Is an Obligation and a Pillar of Islam

“Islam is built upon five pillars… including fasting Ramadhan.”

— Sahih al-Bukhari & Muslim

	•	Fasting develops taqwa (God-consciousness).

	•	It teaches self-control, discipline, and gratitude.

💯 3. Immense Rewards for Good Deeds

“Every deed of the son of Adam is multiplied, a good deed by ten up to seven hundred times… except for fasting, for it is for Me and I will reward it.”

— Sahih Muslim

	•	Only Allah knows the full reward for fasting — it’s special in His sight.

🌌 4. Laylatul Qadr – The Night of Decree

“The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.”

— Surah Al-Qadr (97:3)

	•	Worship during this night is equivalent to 83+ years of worship.

	•	It occurs in the last 10 nights, especially odd nights (21st, 23rd…).

🧼 5. Forgiveness of Sins

“Whoever fasts Ramadhan out of faith and in hope of reward, his past sins will be forgiven.”

— Sahih al-Bukhari

“Whoever stands (in prayer) during Laylatul Qadr… his past sins will be forgiven.”

🕊️ 6. Doors of Paradise Are Opened, Hell Is Closed

“When Ramadhan comes, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained.”

— Sahih al-Bukhari & Muslim

	•	It’s a chance to reset your soul without the whispers of Shaytan

Virtues of Zakah

💭 What is zakah?

	•	Zakah is a way of cleaning your money by helping others.

	•	It’s 2.5% of your savings, given to support the poor, orphans, and people in difficulty. It’s one of the Five Pillars of Islam

💭 When is zakah give away?

✅ 1. You own the minimum amount (called nisab)

	•	If your savings, gold, or assets reach the value of 85 grams of gold (or its cash equivalent), then zakah becomes obligatory.

	•	This must be extra wealth (not what you use for daily needs like food, clothes, house, car, etc).

📅 2. You’ve owned that amount for one full lunar year (Hijri year)

	•	From the day your wealth reaches the nisab value, count one Hijri year.

	•	Once a full year passes, you must pay 2.5% of that wealth as zakah.

💭 Is it important?

🕋 1. One of the Five Pillars of Islam

“Establish prayer, give zakah…” — Qur’an 2:110

Just like praying and fasting in Ramadhan, paying zakah is a must for every eligible Muslim.

🤲 2. Purifies your wealth and soul

“Take from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them to increase…” — Qur’an 9:103

	•	It cleans your heart from greed.

	•	It blesses your money and protects it from harm.

❤️ 3. Helps the poor and strengthens the ummah

	•	It’s a social responsibility — zakah reduces poverty and supports those in need.

	•	It reminds us that wealth is a trust from Allah, not just for ourselves.

⚠️ 4. Deliberately avoiding zakah is a major sin

“And those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend it in the way of Allah… give them tidings of a painful punishment.” — Qur’an 9:34

Usrah 2 : Reflection and Suggestion

Reflection

The topics covered in Usrah Two focus on cultivating sincerity, mindfulness, and spiritual excellence in acts of worship such as salah (prayer), sawm (fasting), and zakah (charity) — all of which are deeply connected to the Islamic values of niat (intention), amal (action), and ihsan (excellence). These aspects are often overlooked in our daily lives, even though they are essential foundations of our faith. Through joining usrah, I’ve had the opportunity to reflect more deeply on these core principles and work on improving areas that need attention.

Suggestion

Overall, I’m fully satisfied with how the usrah sessions were conducted. However, to make it more engaging and impactful, I would suggest incorporating a weekly practice or activity based on the theme we learned that week.

For example, if the topic is zakah, we could organize a small charity collaboration — such as collecting a small donation (even RM1 per person), using the funds to buy essential items, and delivering them together as a group. Afterward, we can reflect on how it felt to put the lesson into action and give physically, not just discuss it. This hands-on approach would make the learning experience more meaningful and memorable.
