Reflect upon the information that we’ve discussed within the first four chapters. How do the four actions of formative assessment speak to us as we prepare for online/alternative teaching and learning in education? Write a one-paragraph response, noting discussion topics and responses.

The session was very informative and reflective in nature. It made me think deeper about assessment and the ways in which I question, give feedback, share criteria, and self-assess. I think teachers really have to think about the way in which they assess students now that we are transitioning to an online/alternative teaching model. They will have to be more intentional about the ways that they assess their students going forward.

I feel like I met the goal for active listening and participating. I think I could have improved by participating even more. I think the four actions will help to prepare as we move forward in online teaching and learning within PLC's and digital platforms. I want to take this opportunity to work on self assessment to allow my student more autonomy in their learning

I think as we move forward with online learning, it will be essential to be clear in the criteria of assignments to ensure that students know what to do. Since we're not giving students grades at this point, it will be important to include opportunities for student self-assessment and along with this give student authentic feedback.

The 4 actions of formative assessment are: questioning, feedback, sharing criteria and self-assessment. Personally, Feedback and sharing criteria spoke to me. Again, I believe that assessment can be used for learning. Sometimes we hurry too much so that we have no time for any of these 4 actions. It is done minimally and we could work on it some more.

Within these past 2 weeks, these actions have become essential. Self-assessment seem to be relevant to everyone. Online learning and alternative teaching really makes you look at how you deliver instruction. It definitely makes you provide feedback in a timely manner. You'll learn later that when feedback is provided it must be constructive.

I think as we move to virtual teaching and learning, we must be aware of the concerns, but also ensuring that we are are utilizing the four "big" formative assessment strategies to meet the needs of students and engage them in chasing their own learning. I liked the perspectives of the other districts (and states) as we move forward and try to figure out building out elearning plans.
