I was originally introduced to this movie by my parents. My mom had been a huge fan of Channing Tatum so when White House Down first came to out on DVD, my parents were among the first to purchase it. I was about 9 when I walked into the living room and they asked me if I wanted to watch it with them, to which I replied that I did. It was the first true action movie that I had ever watched. The graphics and the violence amazed me as I sat on my couch by my dad, unable to speak and say things other than "wow". I was amazed. I still am when I watch it. It will always be a movie that proves itself well through graphics and plot but as I get older, there are more and more movies that come to play and compete with it. I could watch this movie over and over again, which I do, and my mind would never change about it. I will never be too old to watch the first ever action movie that was placed in front of me at such a young age.

The movie is based around John Cale, a current secret service member of the smaller parts of the White House. He brings his daughter, who is a big fan of the white house, on a tour with him and while in the tour, they become separated. A terrorist group enters the White House in plans to destroy it and take out the president at the same time, but John doesn't let that happen. With trying to save his daughter and keeping the president safe, he is thrown into a whirlwind of bullets and explosions as he ultimately takes the power back over from the terrorists and saves the White House and its leaders. It becomes known that a member of the cabinet had been apart of the attack, which leads to more questions of loyalty in the White House and results in John becoming the lead Secret Service member for the President.

This movie combines action and comedy into one. With the explosions and gunshots, along with snarky comments and sarcasm, White House Down gives me a sense of nostalgia while still keeping me on my toes for every second. Action is the leading genre. The whole movie has something new that is being done, whether it be crashes and bangs, or climbing elevator shafts, this is an action movie without a doubt.

The main character, John (Channing Tatum), is by far my favorite character. He takes the stage with his acting and strong voice in the movie. He takes over the screen with a demeanor that shows strength and lack of fear when dealing with the conflict of terrorism. Without him, there may not have been an end to the attack with as little casualties as there were. His daughter may have been killed along with the president that he protected.

Rather than having that group of gunmen get into there with the help of one of the house workers, I would want the president to be involved with the attack to add more drama to the movie. With the president orchestrating the attack and Mike trying to protect him even though he isn't in danger, there could be a switch of power in the house when Mike comes to realize that he is actually protecting the mastermind rather than the target.

Like I said in the critical eye section, I would want the president to be the actual mastermind behind the attack. In a sequel or an add on, I would bring John and his daughter back in the election of a new president. The candidate that wins, secretly a part of a Terrorist group that is centered in Washington DC, gains the medias attention. There would be controversy in the media where the candidate is seen entering a large warehouse on the way back from a terrorist attack that takes place during one of the rallys supporting his election and once he makes it into office, John begins to realize that something is wrong with the way the new president is handling things. There are actions that make the house question his loyalty in office and once an attack on the white house occurs, with the president uninjured, John sets out to figure out the terrorist plot that is taking place behind closed doors. He sets on a journey with his daughter who is now grown, into the new president's past, where he finds that his family is involved in past attacks on the white house but they have never been charged for the crimes they committed. The new president uses his power to get John removed from the country and sent to a place that is undisclosed in order to "repent" for his betrayal to the government, only to return once he has shown that his loyalty to the president comes above anything else. Once he gets back into the country, he finds out that his daughter is now a part of the president's future plans. While John is trying to "repent", his daughter is being brainwashed into believing that what the government is doing is right. He does everything he can to get his daughter back on his side of things, all while staying off the president's radar so that he can dig deeper into the plans the president is coming up with. In the end, John stops a second attack on the White House by getting leaders from other countries into the take down of the United State's President. His daughter is sent away to a prison because of her help in the attack, and John is left alone to take care of the government while they find a new worthy president.
