Malka Galenski was the youngest of five children of her mother, Chaya Zimetbaum and her father, Pinkas. Mika was born on January 26, 1918 in Brzesko, Poland. Her family moved to Belgium on March 21, 1928, but Malka was registered to Antwerp.

Mala/ Malka took a job in order to support her father which became blind, she worked for Maison Lilian as a seamstress. On July 22, 1942 which was two years after the Germans occupied Belgium, she was arrested when she was looking for a place to hide herself and he family. The Germans tool Mala to Fort Breendonlk, then transferred to Mehelen five days later. After the long two days of a nightmare journey she finally was subjected to the normal section at the Juden Rampe outside of Birkenau. She was then placed in a women’s camp at Birkenau. Girls had to stand next to a guard house while waiting for orders to be appointed. Mala was a lufferin during the summer of 1942, she delivered messages between blocks and a liaison, between the Blockfuerhersube, and Kapo, also the prisoners. When Mala was taken into prison she had better conditions because she was able to take a shower.

Mala decided to help around the prison and was well known in Birkenau. She helped by feeding starving prisoners. Because off that small help she did it made a massive impact. Because of that impact more resistance members survived
