Erika -no there was no social media taught in school. I think schools should teach kids to use social medial responsibly and to use news based platforms or medical ones like hospital based (example Stanford healthcare is on twitter) for reliable info or to look up health topics

I learned how to get connected through different professors, checking my email, as well as walking down 7th street. I think that it is important to bring more awareness to emotional wellness programs to elementary and middle schools since they are also at an age where emotional health can be fragile.

I know in my school districts, we placed a great importance on emotional wellness for students throughout K-12. They all provided programs and training for teachers in order to address student wellness. By talking to any teacher or supervisor, they would all have the resources to find help and get assistance. Some ways we can improve the resources is allowing students to be checked up on as a follow up in order to help in bettering their emotional wellness consistently.

I don't think there was any form of "social media literacy" taught to me in school before college. A possible way of addressing this for the next generation of young people is to educate them on how social media can affect their health (physically, psychologically, socially, etc.), how they can reduce time on social media, how they sometimes must be skeptical of the things they see on social media, how they can fact check the information they find, etc. I think that we can teach about determining trustworthy sources of information as soon as an individual starts using technology and social media because it is never too early to be safe/cautious online. It also depends on how old the individual is to decide what ways we should teach them about determining trustworthy sources of information because different methods can appeal to different age groups.

Yes in college I became aware of programs and counseling to address students who needed help. I did/do know how to access the resources. I think the ability to seek counseling through tele-health has given people more comfort in seeking help with less embarrassment or hesitation. I did not know of any programs before college, but I think there should be more mental health resources for high school and even younger kids.

Throughout my four years in high school, there was a club founded on campus known as The Bulldog Project. This club advocated for anti-bullying and for the overall wellness of the student population on campus. As a sophomore in high school, I decided to join the club and soon became the president during my senior year. This experience taught me how to deal with my own emotional situations, while also helping my peers with their emotional wellness. I believe that social media is a great platform to utilize when trying to spread awareness or make resources more well-known/accessible. In addition, establishing a good following and spreading the right message can help in many beneficial ways.

I do believe there may have been programs provided by the school via the student centers for success, but it wasn't heavily advertised.
Erika -no there was no social media taught in school. I think schools should teach kids to use social medial responsibly and to use news based platforms or medical ones like hospital based (example Stanford healthcare is on twitter) for reliable info or to look up health topics
