Yesterday reminded me why I do this work. Hearing stories from the field and reconnecting with our mission lit a fire in me. I left feeling both grounded and inspired, like we’re building bridges across the organization and with our donors that truly matter.

Yesterday was an important day for us to better understand not only the intricacies of our campaign, but also the big-picture case that makes our work so compelling in this moment. I'm grateful to have heard from so many colleagues and friends, who helped me feel even more energized about our plans in the months to come. Paradoxically, achieving our goals is both a marathon (in that long-term results take time) and a sprint (in that our campaign window is short), and yesterday reminded me of how many wonderful, smart, engaged colleagues are running this race together!

As we reevaluate and enhance our approach to fundraising, I get to learn about the strategies, thought, and care that goes into building donor relations. The world is complicated and our work is nuanced to meet the needs of our students and educators but the future we are working to build is clear - a world free from hate and bigotry. Among so many revelatory takeaways, yesterday gave clarity on how best to approach donors openly and make a compelling case for impact as we begin the journey of soliciting our nearest and dearest for campaign support. People don't give to nonprofits, they give *through* nonprofits.
