1. It involves a lot of collaboration and immediate application to the classroom and provides accountability.

2. Know that it will be a challenge to implement in the classroom because my kids are not used to this type of instruction, so it is going to take a lot of consistency from my end.

Collaborating is key. Working in isolation confines us to our own mindsets, both the good and the bad. Practicing the activities and practices will give a good foundation to our continued growth

Excited: Lots of feedback and chances to work out kinks.

Apprehensive: I appreciate time to dive into content with others who teach my same subject. I'm apprehensive about content being pushed aside for more abstract work in these PLCs.

I feel like if you take all of these steps you will be very successful in the classroom, but it seems to be a very time consuming process.

Exciting: I'm able to practice before I get to the students and feel confident in the content.
Apprehensive: Most of my kids are not used this style of teaching and learning, so getting them on the same page and willing to do it this new way has proven to be challenging (teaching 6th grade)

It's exciting to be able to see the strategies and actions of other teachers in action, so you can learn from them. It can be apprehensive to practice in front of people because if you do something that doesn't work well you might feel judged.

Learning this way is exciting because it gives direct feedback and structure for how to do things. I am apprehensive about this because I wonder how much of this information I will retain at one time.

1) As someone who loves brainstorming, learning this way allows me to bounce ideas off of others.

2) I am most apprehensive about having everyone in the group committed and vulnerable. If they aren't this collaboration can be a waste of time.

It makes it interesting, generates unique ideas (and a large variety). Sometimes there seems to be a lack of organization that stresses me out.

Excited: lots of practice, especially with effective language in the classroom. When I am in my classroom and don't know what to say, I automatically revert to language that I used from the learning cycle.
Apprehensive: Sometimes, practice with teachers and their responses is not a good representation of how students will respond in the classroom. But, I do feel at least more prepared to handle unexpected events.

It's exciting to be able to work together in a way that best serves the students.
However, at my school, all of the math teacher are pretty new, so my content PLC is really lacking at this point, and they can be Negative Nancys about students and their needs. It's hard to maintain a positive outlook, when all I hear about is 'bad' kids.

It seems to be somewhat all over the place at times, it's not always easily transferrable to specific situations and objectives

I think the learning by doing will provide a lot of immediate feedback and allow any numbs to be worked out before you're in front of 30 students.

Exciting: I have loved working with other teachers that are learning as I am and figuring out strategies they use for teaching and implementing them. Apprehensive: So many strategies can be overwhelming at times

I am excited to work together to better my teaching.
I am apprehensive about public practice, but am more than willing to try. I wish this would have been a norm at institute.
