On January 31st the church marks this as john (don) Bosco feast day because he died in 1888 on the 31st of January and was born on the 16th of August 1815. John Bosco was born into a family of four with his 3 older brothers and mother Margarita and father Francesco Bosco. Until John was 2 years old when his father passed away. After this devastating accident took place John was shaped into the loving person he aspired to be. Living a simple life with his mother and brothers in the small village of Bacchii where he grew up on his family’s farm where he helped out with the crops and housework gathering firewood. while accomplishing these task his mother taught her son that work is a privilege and joy will make the work easier. From living this humble life, Bosco Leant to see God behind the beauty of the heavens and the rain which showered the vines.

Bosco was always hearing a voice from the master calling him to do special assignments such as going out among the farm lads, but not as a comrade but as a leader. From this he then went onto building a school called Father Lacquer’s school aimed for young people and to guided them towards Loving, Kindness and Religion. Due to the pillars he followed in his teachings this caused him to become known in the church as the father of youth teaching. “Do you want your companions to respect you?

Parable story
Luke 15:3-7

3 So he told them this parable: 4 “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbours, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ 7 Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

If we consider the World behind the text in the story, the lost sheep are referred to as the sinners and how they stray from God and leaving the safe land to take a route that exposes them to sins. The shepherd in the story had a hundred sheep and even with such a huge number he was still proficient to spot that one went missing. Due to him being the good shepherd he loved and cared for all his sheep even if the sheep had taken the wrong path he still disregarded his own comfort and safety. Because of his troubled and concerned heart he departed on the pursuit to find his sheep and didn't rest until it was found. ‘And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbours, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ Refers to that even if you have sinned but wont to be forgiven God will still take you back regardless what you have done. In terms of the World in front of the text, this teaching of Jesus was included in the gospel as everyone in the world needed to understand that if you do sin you can still turn your life around because God will always welcome you back into his arms. Thus, Jesus answered and informed us about how we are supposed to live our lives explaining that if you have a heart full of love we will learn to look after and care for our neighbour because in this story if the shaped were a man driven by greed and not love he would not have risked leaving the other ninety-nine behind in the open and taken a route to dangerous paths possibly up a steep hill or on to a lonely track filled with the threat of wild beasts.

miracle story
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand
Matthew 14:13-21
13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns.14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”16 Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”17 “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.

18 “Bring them here to me,” he said. 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.

John Bosco relates to this teaching of Jesus and takes inspiration from it as he loved everyone including the troubled, injured and disgraceful children. He loved them all and took care of them. John Bosco loved those boys even though the society rejected them and ignored them. John ignored the judgment of society and converted the boys from bad to good. John Bosco loved everyone including his enemies.

Post 6: Priestly, Prophetic Kingly

The words and actions of John Bosco showed a demonstration of all the works of Jesus. The way that Bosco demonstrated the Kingly works of Jesus is how John Bosco was the leader of the ragged, disheartened boys. He set up an orphanage for these boys to have a home and to teach them the ways of the Lord, he was a leader to them. He converted them from bad to good.

The way that John Bosco demonstrated the Prophetic role of Jesus was displayed perfectly when he spoke out about the troubled boys. He had a vision of a Woman and a Man firstly the Man told him that John won't be able to help the troubled boys with goodness and kindness. After the man a women followed who performed a miracle right in front of Bosco’s eyes. She did this by changed a pack of snarling, wild animals to a frolicking flock of lambs, with the animals representing the troubled boys. John showed his Prophetic role through his visions that he received from the Man and Woman that helped him to vision the events that were coming and how he had to help.

John Bosco showed the Priestly role of Jesus by bringing many disgraceful boys together every Sunday each week, he would spend time together with the boys and teach them about Jesus, he would hear their confessions and pray for them. John Bosco was displaying examples of a priest. He was ordained on June 5th, 1841 and with his ordination came the release of a powerful spiritual energy and joined with his rare human gifts made a lasting impression on the modern youth. Don Bosco had an astounding sense of values and as a result, he was able to temper his activity with deep, ceaseless, fervent piety. God rewarded him in glorious ways. Toward the end of Don Bosco's life, his prayers sought miracles. Don Bosco prayed so much that Pope Pius XI said of him that he prayed every moment of his life.

John Bosco wrote many letters to his fellow Salesians to teach them about his discoveries and thoughts. This particular letter was about the treatment of the boys and young men who visited the school every day.

"The system in use in our schools, as you know, is the Preventive System, which consists essentially in disposing the pupils to obey not from fear or compulsion, but from persuasion. In this system, all force must be excluded, and in its place charity must be the mainspring of action.

The inspiration of my whole life, of my priestly efforts and ideals, has been my love for poor, abandoned youth. As all know, this is also the noble ideal of our Salesian Congregation. We are the friends of our boys. To learn how to command them, we must first learn to obey; and to make ourselves feared, we must first make ourselves loved."

This pacific letter was written to the Salesians by John Bosco to teach them how to educate other young boys and how to get them to listen. John goes on to talks about the system that was in use at schools of the time: The Preventive System. The Preventive System consist of influencing the students to obey, not from fear or compulsion but from persuasion. This letter has had an important influence on the Salesian Congregation's values and beliefs. This letters that John Bosco wrote to the Salesians changed and made up many of their values and beliefs they have now as every letter that their founder wrote to them had a valuable message to attain.

An encyclical was written during the 19th century by Pope Leo Leo XIII on 15th of May, 1891 called the Rerum Novarum. This encyclical is a document that has a set of Catholic social teachings that are valuable and important for our generation. Rerum Novarum had a variety of beneficial teachings on many different topics that affect the world such as having fair working hours and wages and having the right amount of workloads for different people. Another major topic that is addressed in this encyclical is to help the poor and to give them enough so that they are not left unattended. John Bosco and his Salesians had started up hospitals and schools in Italy as well as Bosco starting orphanages that helped save many children's lives. This act of kindness inspired the Rerum Novarum and the social teachings on helping the disheartened and poor to bringing them together.
