The families of the departed are left to pick up the pieces and come to terms with their grief, as they try to understand how so many people disappeared at once and what it means to be left behind. The reader gets an insider's perspective from the Garvey family, who lost nobody to the "Sudden Departure", but still remains disoriented after the incident.
    I enjoyed the book quite a bit. In fact, I found the style of writing and the characters enchanting. I was amazed by the writer's ability to imagine such a scenario and then have the ability to really flesh out what it would be like to go on living after an unexplainable tragedy. Though the book has a dark plot line, the writing is accessible and often funny. You may laugh, you may cry, but one thing is certain, you will look at your world and the people in it a whole lot differently.

The novel first starts with the dog’s owner, Denny, talking to a friend about how he thinks it’s time to put the dog, Enzo, down because he is so old. From there, the story rewinds to when Enzo is first born, told in his view. Enzo talks about his life with Denny, and then as Denny’s family builds, how Enzo is impacted by the shifting of his relationship with Denny and how he feels about his family’s problems. I found this book somewhat boring. I believe that this book was very plot driven, and I did not find the character’s very interesting. However, I would recommend this book to people interested in animals, or specifically, dog enthusiasts. Do not let this review prevent you from reading this book though, because many people I know love this story. This book was a little dull, but Enzo taught me a lot about fighting for what I believe in.
